Yeah, if you are reasonably successful on the Australian team - ie win a medal at the worlds (comm games don't count) and somewhat marketable then you set yourself up for life by the age of 25. That is the reason so many give it away young - they have enough money to be very comfortable basically forever and they couldn't be arsed getting up at 5am and not having an active social life anymore.

It's only the really committed people like Phelps and Dara Torres who keep going regardless of cash and do so successfully.
