Sydney Showground shambles....

Ah, well i have been reserving judgement for most of the year but the time has come for me to say that i don't like the showgrounds. I have been there a few times this year and it just doesn't feel like a footy ground. Has anyone noticed just how wonky the ground looks on the TV?? Above this, the ground can have 15k in it and still look empty because no one ever sits in those seats behind the goalposts. Apart from the grassed hill where the bulldogs army sit, the other 2 grassed areas look practically empty.....
Im not saying that the olympic stadium is the answer, but at least for the big games next year (eg: Knights, rabbitohs, parra and saints) they should consider a move back to the 80,000 seater...I think given good circumstances, they would at least 1/2 fill it for games against the eels and rabbits, which would come across well on the tele and everyone who went to the ground would have a good seat....
What does everyone else think? I know that a lot in here have went to the ground for matches, so im interested to see what people think. Im really hard up for other alternatives at the moment, although we are sort of in the same boat as the dragons, we can't wait for our new ground to get built!

Fan,
Do you think that was a factor in the relatively poor crowd last night? 2nd vs 3rd should have done better than that.
What is the situation with Liverpool?
My concern with the Olympic Stadium is that for most of the matches the crowd will look pitiful and there will be no atmosphere.

Could be bopper, a lot of people just don't like the ground. The huge kerfuffle that is going on up here at the moment (involving race problems) may have also contributed to alot of sharks fans not turning up. I know, it may sound ridiculous, but its not as far fetched as it may sound.....
Liverpool is stalled at the moment until canterbury leagues can find a way to fund it (pokie ban will prevent this from happening....the building of a new club)

Fan,
Thanks for that. there is a problem that might be as big as the pokie ban. The Federal Government is looking at the tax-exempt status of organisations like Leagues clubs. That could really set the cat among the pigeons.
If Liverpool gets permanently stalled what are alternatives?
What about sharing Parramatta Stadium? It's not far from Homebush and with two good tenants (good crowd every week) it could even be upgraded a little.

If the policy mentioned in my Blockbuster thread was used, two Canterbury home games would be played at the Olympic Stadium. With a match scheduled for Wellington, the other 9 games need to be played at a 20,000 odd seat ground. They've signed for the show grounds. The best thing they could do there would be to have temporary stands built closer to the action (not going to happen). Liverpool will never happen, so the choice as I see it is for a return to Belmore or Concord Oval.

Saint and Bopper,
I do believe that the bulldogs will purchase Marconi in the near future. There is heaps of money to be made there if it is run properly (which i have said b4 on another thread)....i think that they could gain the finances to get a stadium up in liverpool. Perhaps if they become co-tenants with the Wests Tigers or something, then the costs could be split up.....
Parra stadium is not a bad idea, id like to see it upgraded to a 40,000 seater....dunno if this is possible, but it would be good to see. Belmore won't happen, Concord is an option but they have used that before and it got canned very quickly....
