According to the 2012 Season Guide...
8. Send Off
In the event a player is sent from the field for misconduct, the player will receive a discount from any resulting charge for that incident. The player will have one point deducted from the charge for each minute of the match he misses due to the send off.
Did anybody see the tackle that Digby Ioane got the same suspension for? (without loading) It seriously wouldn't have been a penatly in the NRL. (BTW I don't watch rugby, I saw it on fox sports news.)
On topic, 7 weeks for T-Rex seemed about right, and in no way did he land on his arse.
I don't think that's really the point. Manly fans think Williams was hard done by, but Ioane got 5 weeks for a tackle that wouldn't even warrant a penalty in league. Shit sport
Regardless of what Gallen thinks, 7 weeks is enough to get it into his head that you shouldnt be tempting fate with another persons neck.
True. If DeGois ends up with a serious neck injury, how many budding Billy Slater's, Benji Marshall's, Ben Barba's etc would be lost to the game because their mum's think it us too dangerous.
The game cannot afford a serious injury from a foul play incident, even if it is "accidental".
And how many parents would have stopped their kids from playing after the David Williams incident last year? He suffered a severe neck injury as a result of normal play, how would that have affected the views from parents? Fact is there have probably been more neck injuries from normal play than foul play, I don't buy into the "think of the children" argument for that reason alone. I don't think many people have argued that the risk of serious injury wasn't there but I think this is a pretty poor argument.
What are you saying then? If there are more injuries from normal play then it is because there are a shitload more normal plays in a game then spear tackles. If spear tackles or german suplexes were happening regularly there would be more injuries from them which is why Tony Williams got hammered.
You've misunderstood my point. My point is acts of serious foul play are rare (due to the penalties) so the major injuries that can occur in regular play would be more offputting for a parent than injuries from foul play. I'm not saying the punishments should be more lenient (in most cases I think the penalties should be tougher) for these incidents but I'm saying if I was a parent looking to put my kid in rugby league I'd be more concerned about injuries that can occur during regular play.
