Talking to the Refs.

Firstly I believe that a Captain of an NRL team you should be allowed to talk to the referee when reasonably questioning a decision.

However, nothing annoys me more than people like Paul Gallen (not only him) who is not a captain charging at the ref midfield questioning decisions.

Should non captain players be allowed to talk to the referee?

Should there be a sin binning for players who constantly do this (5 mins)?

Should we introduce a kind of Soccer Arm Band that is obviously harder to remove and make a rule that only that player can address the referee?

Just a thought

Pretty much the only time captains try to talk to the referee is when they are trying to slow down the play after the other team gets a penalty.

This shouldn't be allowed in my opinion and they should have to wait for a break in play that is more appropriate (which usually happens).

To be honest, I think refs need to simply concentrate more on actually refereeing the game correctly than worrying about who's yelling at them.
If refs didn't fugg up so much there'd be less people wanting to yell at them.

I agree with Bubbles. Whilst captains do try and slow the game down, they should be the only player allowed to speak to the ref. If another player yells at the ref he should be given a warning then 5 in the bin. Hate to see our game end up like soccer where all 11 players from one side run and scream at the ref after nearly every whistle is blown.

I agree wholeheartedly. Only the captains should be allowed to speak to the ref, and only at the referee's pleasure i.e. the ref should just wave them away and call play-on if he doesn't feel the need to explain himself. I think the referees have forgotten that that don't actually owe the captain a detailed explanation for every penalty they issue.

If this is he ase then thse goes for the refs, they should only be allowed to talk to the captain of the team, many times you hear the refs talking to the players as though they were children or with no respect yet thy demand respect in return

So it is the captains fault that the refs make blunders left, right, and centre now? These fruitloops should be made look stupid!

The approach of players like Gallen & Thurston to match officials are a blight on our game.

It's amazing what will be excused by so many because people are perceived as "passionate".

There's a very simple solution to this. The captain should only have the "right" to question the referee when his team is in possession. Have a scrum feed? Go ahead ask your question about that penalty five minutes ago. Just received a penalty? Sure, hold off on that quick tap and talk to the ref about holding down in the tackles.

But if your team is on defense then I don't think you have any right to hold up the game to question the ref. Let the ref mark the spot of the penalty and let the attacking team restart as soon as they're ready. If the defensive captain gets in the refs face, first wave him away and then penalise him for offside when the attack takes the tap and runs straight into him.

The way the refs talk to and treat the players is a disgrace too.

I was told that a player in the Sharks Warriors game was penalised for being off side when this player was the actual kicker. Have the refs got this bad ?

Yes.
The ref then tried to cover it up.
