In terms of edge second rowers.

1. Frizell
2. Sims
3. Thompson
4. Matthews
5. Marketo
6. McCarthy

you obviously haven't seen too much of Sims the last 1.5 seasons...he hasnt been that impressive to be classed as second best in our squad. Thompson has been offering more..

Hardly having a melt down Benny V, just trying to repel the tsunami of bull shit about this signing.

As you are pro the signing, you see my stern push back as a melt down, so be it.

Maybe you can explain what Sims has done in the last 3 years to warrant all the applause and guffawing plus a straight up start in 1st grade?

As I said earlier he isn't that big, has judiciary form and is now at his 4th club in 7 years?

We signed Ikahihifu, MC Carthy, Lui, Havilli and they were lauded by many at the start of the year.

SI got no real play time at NRL and has left the club and Mc Carthy zip NRL time so were they good signings? Should Sims be ahead of Havilli and Mc Carthy in the pecking order?

In another post I listed a few names of real fire power forwards and someone has referred to them as alpha forwards which is a good analogy.

If we want an alpha forward, which would be a great idea, we just spent a hole heap of cap money on Sims.

Are you telling me Sims is substantially better than what we have or maybe you are telling me Sims is an alpha forward?

If so please enlighten us all.

IMO we keep shopping in the "value for money" basket and never get a top liner.

Many of you predicted a stomping, bashing and smashing, fire power, bending the line forward pack so what has happened that we need Sims?

Yes Creagh is injured but never an enforcer type and De Belin is injured and again hardly an enforcer but will be back and Masoe wasn't even guaranteed a 1st grade spot after a lengthy departure from NRL.

So in reality you people have no faith in Packer, Cooper, Ah Mau, Frizzel, Thompson, De Belin, Mc Carthy, Havilli, Lui, Host to get the job done and Sims single handedly is going to improve our lot.

Or maybe some see Sims signing as the bait to get a really impressive forward to join us, because their is no starch in what we have.

Lol look at your posts in this thread, its 100% meltdown! Repeating the same thing in long-winded posts hoping that someone somewhere will agree is very Vasilevsky. Next thing you'll starta thread entitled 'Rate Tariq Sims' full of 2/10 ratings.

Weve got plenty of workers in our pack, the only guys who can be classified as enforcers is Thommo and Packer, and the latter is a bit of a stretch but he'll work up to it.

Sims fills a roll. We need a guy who opposition are going to think twice about running at - even if they see Sims and get concerned about having their head taken off, thats a second of doubt we need to put into the opposition! He hasnt hit his peak at Newcastle as an 80 minute player, some players just dont fit into clubs, but theres no denying that hes got aggression and power, even at Newcastle.

The fact that he has shown in the past that he has the ability (at the Cowboys) to match it with the best forwards in the world is an added bonus. And $400k is nothing for a player of that calibre.

The only concern anyone should have over this signing is how the coaching staff use him. If Mary throws him onto the edge and gets him to play 80 minutes (putting Friz in the middle) as a workhorse then he's failed. If he plays him in 2x20-30 minute stints for pure impact and fear factor, he will pay dividends.

Hard to shine when playing in a team like the Knights. There is every reason to be confident that Tariq's form will improve in a different team, just like that of other ex Knights like Leulia & Tapine

Benny, with respect it's not a meltdown and how can you compare a respected poster like OT to the other guy...please. OT simply does not rate the guy end of story.
For the record I think he's a good signing.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion and OT's is that he does not rate Sims. Hopefully Sims can prove us right and that he will end up being a great addition to the squad.

Guys, keep in mind this little pearl of wisdom from Mr Ed just last week when considering his rants..

"I think there are at least 7 backrowers that i would pick ahead of friz."

I was initially surprised with the signing as I thought another forward wasn't a priority. But when you think Creagh and Masoe haven't played all year, and Thommo could be on the move, it does make sense.

As long as it doesn't impact our ability to sign a half and hooker (Keary and Seggy), I'm fine with the signing.

Can't think of another forward (that's rep quality like Sims) that's available we could have got for 400k.

Didn't really think we needed him, and I'd like to see who we are letting go (if any) before getting too excited. Still, he is an established and well regarded first grader and a local boy returning to the district. Not a bad thing.

Looks like the best signing we've made since Widdop and at a reasonable price. Doesn't transform us by any means, but a player in a position we need who isn't a 27 year old reserve grader. Still need the halfback, three backs, another bench forward, a bench hooker/utility, a coach, a CEO and a marketing strategist. But Rome wasn't built etc.

I totally agree on this one. A decent buy for around the 400k mark. I don't think it impacts any new signings either. Pete M released, Sticky Icky Gone, Farrell surely to announce retirement soon, Creagh more than likely not behind Farrell, Thompson will probably be moved on, Question marks still on Benji so there surely has to be money in the bank

Not the worst signing ever, but hardly cause for celebration. Was an interesting signing back when he joined the Knights and we were in contention to land him. But he's done nothing in a quite a while now, the Cows didn't miss him and he hasn't set Newcastle on fire - I think he's used goods. The "rep quality" line is a bit dicey, he's only played for Country, right? He's looking too slow for the edge, too small for the front row. A 27 year old bench player for us. Better than Marketo et al, sure, but way more expensive. Meh.

Great signing for the Dragons- if he can control his aggression. As has already been said , Sims ,Ah Mau ,Packer and big Mose will certainly add some much needed size to the forward pack !

Yeah, don't know what to think about this one. Its not the worst signing in the world but that statement in itself says a lot about our recruiting recently.
To be fair, he has been playing in one of the few teams that's been a worse rabble than us for the last few seasons, so maybe a change of scenery will help, who knows.
