A Florida teacher was sentenced to three years' partial house arrest and seven years' probation after she pleaded guilty to having sex with a 14-year-old schoolboy.
Under the terms of her plea agreement, Debra Lafave will not be allowed to leave her home in western Florida between 10:00 pm and 6:00 am, she will have to wear an electronic monitoring device, and she will have to stay at least 330 metres away from any school or playground for the next three years.
The reading teacher pleaded guilty to two counts of lewd and lascivious battery.
Police records showed the teacher had sexual intercourse and oral sex with the then 14-year-old student in June 2004.
"I accept full responsibility for my actions, and I'm very sorry for what occurred," Lafave told the court.
Before the defendant reached agreement with the victim's family, who reportedly wanted to end the highly publicised case swiftly, the state sought a three-year jail sentence, but her attorney said the striking blonde would probably not survive prison.
"To place an attractive young woman in that kind of hellhole is like placing a piece of raw meat in with the lions," he said in July.
