I have watched the boys play most games this year and I reckon the biggest problem with our defence is that we simply go in too high. Not enough round the legs and stopping the go forward.
In saying that I reckon there are a lot of sore teams the week after playing the sharks..we have some venom at times but I get frustrated watching the missed tackles because players are trying to go high.....even the second and thirds in seem to want to jump on as opposed to just taking the legs.
The likes of Riddell, Mason and co. love it when defenders go high..their legs keep pumping and they make an extra 15 metres where they shouldn't.
I also know it is coached into all teams these days to go high, lock up the ball....but give me effective grassing tackles in the mould of speechley any day.....
any other thoughts on this out there?
