Learoyd-Lahrs out for Raiders

Tuesday, April 28, 2009
The CFMEU Canberra Raiders will be without in form forward Tom Learoyd-Lahrs for this weekend’s important match against the Panthers at Canberra Stadium, after he took the early guilty plea today for a grade one high tackle at the NRL judiciary.
Learoyd-Lahrs has been replaced on the Raiders bench by Nigel Plum, who made a successful return from a rib injury last weekend for Souths Logan.
The Green Machine will also be without Troy Thompson this weekend after he re-injured his knee against the Bulldogs, with Scott Logan coming back into the side to start for Thompson.
Raiders Coach David Furner said the inclusion of Logan and Plum would be a boost for the Raiders, with Learoyd-Lahrs and Thompson both expected to be fit and available following the bye.
“Tom will take the early plea and will only miss the one match while Thommo’s injury has been seen as being minor so both should be back and ready after the bye in round nine,” Furner said. “You don’t lose anything with Scott Logan and Nigel Plum back in the team so we won’t have to alter our game plan too much.”
Furner said the Raiders were already looking forward to the match against Penrith on Saturday night and said a win was vital as they headed into the round nine bye.
“We need the two points and I know the guys are keen to get out there Saturday night and get a win at home,” he said. “The Panthers played well against the Titans on Monday night so we will be working hard this week on shutting them down.”

Disappointing to see no changes to the backs. Struth, Purtell must have some naughty photo's of Furnace.

I don't even remember Learoyd-Lahrs going on report...That will really hurt. At least Plum will add some starch to the defence.

I like the addition of Plum , but thats about it.

I cant believe we arent changing our backline , what does Milne or Graham got to do. Milne's form was good when he was dropped.

i hope DF knows whats he's doing , Ive stood by him so far but Im running out of faith. I honestly dont think we will win this one with this current team.

Agree about the backline. Our backs look pretty ordinary at the moment. Milne didn't deserve to be dropped imo and at least when he runs the ball back he looks like breaking the line. Graham should be back too to add some pace and spark!!

Yeah I said the same thing in another thread, and the fact that Graham and Mile aren't there is geniused! that team has 16 points in them.. unless we see some individual brilliance we will be beaten by about 20.

The last time we met in Canberra it was a bloodbath. You guys look invincible when you play us. At a guess, you guys just love to prove a point to Matt Elliott. Hopefully we've improved enough to grab a win here. But i'm not confident about this game.

I dont think we will win this game, just something about penrith atm.
I agree with everyone, milne and graham should of been picked.
I would of been more confident of beating penrith at home last season.at least than we were smashing teams at home.

I just had a look on the QRL website - Graham has not been named for Souths-Logan this weekend.

Hopefully Furnace plans on pulling the old switcheroo.

Is Graham fit? If so he should be there. We're really missing Colin Best and its showing.

Both our wingers have been poor.

Might be a stupid question but where are Fensom and Thompson in the Toyota Cup side. Are they both over 20 this year?

how can they be poor when the ball never gets to them lol

Graham, Milne and Kelly haven't been going that well for Souths Logan. Up until last weekend, Sam Huihuihau had been their best back but he had a shocker against Wynnum. Michael Brophy, Shea Moylan and Nigel Plum were the Magpies best last weekend.

When is Trevor Thurling due back?, they need some hardcore aggression off the bench. Waddell is nothing special from what I saw on the weekend. I'm more excited by Jarrad Croker and Josh Dugan. Anyways the raiders defence has to improve to beat the panthers. No more soft tries out of dummy half while defending on the line like last week.

Its the team i expected and i'm not going to complain.

I will say something that will probably be unpopular, waddell is waste of a bench spot, he was very average against the dogs and to me hasn't really shown much in the games he's played.

I would have someone like Joel Thompson on the bench who can cover the backs and forwards. Or you could have Milne or Graham on the wing with Carney on the bench.

Im with you 100% , I wouldnt be playing him , Id have him at SL. Butts can play near the whole game , then Tongue can cover for the short period Butts is not there.

I think waddell was on the bench mostly as cover for buttriss.
I would still much prefer to see waddell in the team instead of the useless flanagan.

furner's dummy half tactics this season have not worked. Four players have now played in the position in only 7 games. Hopefully buttriss holds the position but he's never been an 80min player so Waddell/Flanagan needs to be on the bench.

Tongue to hooker at any stage of the game is NOT a good move.

Waddell has been solid so far, he had a more quiet night last week but he is still finding his feet at this grade just like Dugan and Croker. If we use him properly he should have much better impact, bring him on in the 1st half would be a good start. As mentioned Buttriss has never been a hooker that plays 80 minutes and Tongue had his best game in ages because he was left at lock.

After all my arguing about Graham not being named for SL meaning nothing it seems he is in for Croker with Carney moving to centre.

Happy with Carney going to centre, but Milne should be on the wing. Graham gets too smashed up on kick returns/dummy half runs.

what a load of sh*t that game was.
did the boys even want to be there?
a few people are calling furner a sh*thouse coach, but i think its being too harsh.
the players have to show up and want to play, and they didnt tonight.
Monaghan was our most damaging player IMO.thats the best game ive seen him play this year.our attack is sh*thouse.campese is the only playmaker capable of getting us points and they cant always turn to campo.
furner has to be livid with that performance and he should be going off his head.
at times i wasnt sure if i was watching the local u'8s go round.pathetic.
