I'd like to say thanks to Gareth Ellis for all his hard work, passion and heart he has shown for the WestsTigers during his stint here 'down under'. He has been a great example to the rest of the team and the forwards in getting the job done. I hope all our forwards have learned something from taking the field with you. I

Here's to sending you off with a win. (Hope so anyway). I've no doubt WT will miss you very much.

Cheers and thanks.

I've been following the Tigers since the 1980s and Gareth Ellis is one of the best forwards we've had in that time. Tough, skillful and a real competitor. Very sad to see him leave.
Thanks Gareth and best wishes.

Ellis may have only played 4 seasons for the club, and he may have spent a lot of time injured, but he is a club legend. IN 2007-08 we were struggling in the forwards, we had lost Skando and Boof (and later BG) and had not replaced them properly, and got steamrolled out of games. The fact Farah looked first grade quality in this period speaks volumes about the guy. When Gaz came in 2009 a lot of those forwards we had who had struggled stepped it up. He was a leader who helped several blokes in our pack take their game to another level. Gibbs went from being a plodder to a quality first grade forward, Galloway went from a potential star to an international. Our young forwards coming through started kicking on faster. Heck, in 2007 Tigers fans thought Heighington was world class. If he was an Australian, he'd probably have 20 origin games to his name by now (irrelevant of which state he was from).

Along with Farah and Benji is one of the top 3 tigers ever in my opinion (makes up the top 5 with the 2005 spine). It's a shame we couldn't win a premiership for him.

You have to feel for him, before he came to us he had Manly chasing him but Mark Oneil got into his ear and convinced him to come to the Tigers. Was great for us but cost him at least one GF win and a probable second this year.

Its just a shame that other players at the club dont follow his lead, work hard, play hard and keep their mouth shut

A lot of great memories of a tremendous competitor and will be surely missed.
Shame he was not send out with a deserving grand final win.
Did not take him 12 months to fit into tiger style.

It took him about 12 minutes to fit in to our style. Remember that first game against Canberra? I've never seen a player go as hard as he did that night. Absolutely carved up, made some massive tackles and busted his guts. Nothing's really changed either.

Thanks for the memories and tremendous efforts Gareth, you are a champion and the club and us fans are certainly going to miss you mate.

Just watched the Ellis video on youtube. There are more highlights in that 5 and a bit minute clip than our entire 2012 season. Different looking team.
We are sorely going to miss this bloke.
Cheers Gareth.

The Tigers (both Balmain and Wests) have been blessed with talent sourced from England.

Players like Lockwood, Hanley, Schofield, Currier and Crooks were just standout players but I tell you Gareth Ellis is one of the best players to ever play the game let alone just play for the Tigers. Crikey we are going to miss this guy.

Someone said in an earlier post, he just got on with the game, wasn't the type to talk himself up he just did what was expected of him....and did it well. I for one will be talking about him for years to come, he has my total respect.

He is our best ever signing, IMO.

Before he came here, our pack was largely viewed as weak, soft and lacking in size.

I assume most clubs still think the same about our forwards, but the difference Ellis has made in his time here is astounding.

We will miss him dearly and won't ever be able to effectively replace him.

Guess who snapped him up?

Sheens the same guy you guys give to here 24/7.
Only ever talk about the bad.

That's soon forgotten since he outdone himself with the Blair signing which also lost us Gibbs.

This is one time where the bad outweighs the good.

Sheens also had the hair brained scheme to play Ellis at prop at one point.

Sheens' only dilemma was going to be who to compare him to in lieu of our Thurston, Cronk, Daley, Clyde and Bird

Get your facts rights, big Mark Oneill was playing in the ESL and got into his ear and Mark swayed him away from Manly. Of course Sheens said yes when Mark said he wanted to come down under, but it was Mark Oneill's that lured him to the club.
