The $10,000 Fine

Last week Souths and I think the Gold Coast copped $10,000 fines(subject to appeals)etc.
I know Souths was for the pasting they copped over at Brookvale from the ref (some will say Taylor had every right to mention it-me included) and I'm not sure what the Gold Coast copped their fine for but was it something their coach said?

Strangely enough Souths turned around the one sided penalty count against Manly and got the penalties 8-4 against the Sharks.
Cronulla only got one penalty in the first half(first of the game).Got 2 in a row in the 2nd half but the burrow soon stopped that little roll we got.I think Cronulla won the penalty count against the Warriors.

On Saturday night the Gold Coast get the penalties 5-2 against Newcastle.

Is it the home ground factor or the $10,000?

I think Reefy(where is he) mentioned last year about Nathan Brown's $10,000 well spent.
Seems the trend is continuing.

the better team won but f**k me that ref really gave some home town penalties

the high shot penalties in particulair was just plain reacting to the crowd

the referees had actually improved over the last 5 years in this regard and are now slipping back

agreed - im sure there was one yesterday for either a high shot or 10m

the crowd erupted as the play ceased - then the twit blew his whistle

Our discipline has gone down the toilet, we are falling back into bad habits when the game is not going our way. Has been evident over the past month or so.

When Mr Bean ran up and was policing the ruck though he was definitely caught out. The markers were square (it was Noddy and someone else) and they caught the dummy half. Seemed at first he blew the penalty for markers not being square, then changed his mind to being inside the 10.

Anyone got any thoughts on the karate chop to Bird's arm.(not trying to single the bloke out who did it).
Video ref must think its ok.
I've noticed a few players do it this year when the ball carrier is grabbing on to them.

I though tboth teams scored off a forward pass.

...we were pinged for a flop..yet the bloke hadn't had a hand laid on him.

never the less we were pathetic.

Was I the only one who thought we should have got a penalty for Mellors tackle on Simmo when he didn't have the ball?

I know we scored through Ando, but I still thought we should have gotten a penalty for that as well.

No they got that 100% correct.
If we didnt score the try we may/should of got a penalty try.
No 8 point try(6 in this case because Covell didnt kick the goal)either because you've just about got to decapitate the guy to get one.Just holding a guy back doesnt qualify but I get where your coming from.

so foul play as opposed to a general infringement will get one Foz?

Yep.

Think knees in the back high shot etc.
Think the Melbourne bloke copped a high hit in the grand final of 99 that ended up an 8 pointer.
(Jamie Ainscough??? maybe did it).

No foz, that grand final 99 was a penalty try as Smith did not ground the ball due to the high shot....

The last 8 point try I remember was 93 Bulldogs v Norths if I believe. Under the laws of the game, an 8 point try is awarded when an act of foul play is committed during the act of scoring a try (where the try is actually grounded correctly) or after the scoring of a try.

The first goal kick is at the point of the try, in which the referee will then go signal a penalty ten metres in front of goal, and then the goal kicker takes another conversion attempt.

Youre 100% correct.
My mistake on that 99 Grand Final try.
Foz blames part of it due to his bad memory.
For some reason I was thinking the Melbourne guy scored and got hit high and they got an 8 point try.
