We don't have Pumas in Australia, same as we don't have Broncos, Cowboys, Crushers, Chargers,Stealers or Panthers.

Why do we have to pick American Gridiron names.

We do have Dolphins on the Gold Coast so it could be argued that it is a good name regardless of its existence in the NFL.

interestingly theve narrowed the mascot down to 4 after extensive research, either

pirates
bucchineers

In the NFL, the Carolina Panthers were added to the league in 1995 so the Penrith Panthers were in existence first 8)
The Buccaneers name would be a blatant rip off though.
