i'm considering buying a new tv .... plasma or LED? .... I wanna be able to watch the footy without it looking shit ... that is my main criteria - lol ... 3D and internet and that shit is of little interest ... I probably would be looking at something under 50" for the spot it will go - anything bigger might be too big

I believe plasmas are still considered better for sports - but also read they glare a bit and seems they are only 50"+

LEDs - are these better for sports now? have they improved the quality of fast moving motion on these?

anyone recommend any brands? I have always had panasonic TVs - they seem good

I was told Samsung LED, hence I got one and never had an issue. Has internet capability but I'm not geeky enough to need it.

Strides I recently bought this 50" Sony telly.

HD is f**king amazing. 3D is pretty impressive too (works with the normal hoytz glasses these days).

(BTW it's come down $250 since I bought it 3 months ago).

So far my research says:

Plasma pros (led lcd cons):
- picture, colour depth/quality
- no fast motion issues (ie sport)
- cheaper

LED LCD pros (plasma cons):
- use less power
- not as heavy
- less glare (plasmas have glass screen so more glare)
- no image memory (plasmas still suffer a bit from this)
- vivid colours and sharp edges on pictures (tho this can be a con too)
- more sizes (plasmas are only 50"+ now)

I still worry about watching to footy and a LCD - lol

Personally I'm a fan of plasma.

I recently bought a Samsung 50" smart/3d plasma.

Never use the smart/3d stuff but it was on special and was the same price as the one without those features!

Very happy with this tv and would def recommend, have a couple of plasma's over the years and never had any problems. The picture quality is excellent and I would be reluctant to change.

I have a couple of LG plasma's and I hate the function to change the input, you have to switch through all the input options until you find the one you need, very annoying.

I've got a Samsung 64" 3D plasma and have no issue with watching the footy, the HD quality is amazing.

Only problem now though is that it is too small, want the 100" now!

I have both plasma and LCD. The plasma is great but the glare is a bastard.
If you get a LCD just look out for the MHz or the speed or whatever it's called.

Yes it's the CPU speed that you pay for these days. Mine is LED and it's superb in all respects. So good that I'm finding it hard to watch SD channels on foxtel or FTA.

Which brings me to another gripe - you pay extra for a HD box with foxtel, yet there are only 6 or so HD movies available on box office.

yeah i was looking at that sony one you posted earlier - looks like sony have some fancy doo-hickey-thingy that makes the LED LCDs better for fast moving stuff

i think i'd get either a panasonic, samsung or sony .... just gotta decided plasma or not - I'll go check a few out .... think I'd prefer a LED LCD but I want the sport to be good

when i go to other people's houses and watch HD TVs I actually find it weird cos I am so used to my super-dooper CRT
