OK. You know better than a Nobel Prize winner in the discipline being discussed. He did a lot of other work before selling books to all those lefties in the US.

There is no doubt that we substantively avoided the worst of the GFC. If we get hit in the future (which is perfectly possible), that will reflect a different set of circumstances. With the benefit of hindsight we may have avoided the consequences of the GFC with a subsantially smaller stimulus package, but we might not have.....

I'm dead serious, I would have no problem pushing them into a fire or dropping them out of a plane personally. Lowlife scum! As I said, they disregard all life when lighting a fire, so they do not deserve life!

Same goes for paedophiles, just fly them over a bush fire a nudge them out! Actually f**k it, let the parents or family torture them to the point of death, let them heal and then repeat for as long a they like.......

But they're just children - dumb, senseless, misguided children. And considering our society as a whole believes in rehabilitating offenders, it's difficult not to argue a solid case for rehabilitating the little twats.

But they're just children - dumb, senseless, misguided children. And considering our society as a whole believes in rehabilitating offenders, it's difficult not to argue a solid case for rehabilitating the little twats.

15,16, meh! Once a criminal always a criminal, get rid of them early to stop their future murders/aggravated crimes.

I don't believe in rehabilitation, what are the percentages of true success? Most people I have come across with a criminal record (violent/aggravated of any kind) don't change, they just get out and do the same things, regardless of if they are ever caught for it again.

Some people are just broken and the do-gooders think they can be fixed!

I don't think everyone can be fixed, but some can be rehabilitated.

But the biggest issue to take into account is the cost on society - imprisoning offenders for life is great, but the financial strain on the system is a major headache for many people. Rehabilitation has been seen as a viable alternative because it's less of a strain, and when it works, we get a new member of society.

How about those kids that tortured that little boy to death in Liverpool (UK) back in the early 90s.

The one who was judged to have been the ringleader seems to have been rehabilitated whereas the other kid has had a history of further antisocial offences and is onto his fourth replacement identity.

They can be pretty tricky sometimes. I had a to look after someone's 2 year old for a day once, and I wanted to watch the footy. Between kickoff and the 10 minute mark he'd escaped, gone into the shed and filled the petrol tank of the ride on mower with calf formula.
