The AFL GF

I had a red hot go at trying to watch it, for the second time in 5 years, but couldn't get into it. I psyched myself up all day trying to get into a mindset to watch it to see if I could understand why so many southerners live for it.

Come gametime, I was no chance. Kept flicking channels and eventually settled for ARC#-oMaybe if the scores were closer, I kept telling myself.

The last time I made this effort was for Brisbane's tilt at 4-in-a-row vs perennial Cinderella's, Port Power. Surely there'd be some interest for me there with our great Qld team (The Pride of Brisbane - 39 players, 4 from Qld and none from Brisbane :fist:) but no, I didn't do any better with that one. I found some ESL (a comp that I have contempt for) 5 v 6 play-off between some second rate pub side vs some other village's idiots. I only knew about three players in total, all of them ex-NRL players, and I still found it more interesting.

I guess I'm just a lost cause to the AFL.

It was a beautiful day so I did some gardening and occasionaly stuck my head inside to check the score which soon became so lop sided there was no interest whatsoever.

The funniest thing was some guy dangling from a big balloon trying to put the trophy on a pedestal but kept getting blown away. Who thinks of this sh*t?

It wasn't as good as the previous two but I still really enjoyed it...

although I don't go into watching the game with preconceived ideas about AFL

I don't think I could ever get into the game though. It isn't hard enough to score points. There isn't enough skill involved in scoring a goal imo...

yeah that baloon thing was pretty much the only thing i saw, why would anyone like to see an old woman in a silver suit doing somur sults and taking the cup down, and then couldnt put it down. it was embarrasing

Man, Geelong were incredible. I don't know a great deal about AFL, but fair dinkum, they were awesome and deserve a load of credit. I could watch the game a bit just the way they play, very quick and slick.

The force is weak in this one...

They were kept in the SANFL cellar cleaning the floors whilst the other clubs went off to the AFL ball with the Adelaide Crows.

That was a great game, it would of been better if it was closer but we broke the record in style and ended out 44 year drought.

I watched the last 20 minutes last year, even if the game is a piece of sh*t it wasn't bad because it was a 1 point difference for the last 20 mins (a team would gain points, then the other would)

But it's still sh*t. It's just one big mess with a structure that seems to go missing. Didn't watch any this year.

LOL. Cronulla fans have FINALLY found a way to celebrate a premiership win

Shouldn't this be moved to the AFL forum?

Or the sh*thouse?

Yep I cant fathom the AFL either. Do they soap the ball up or what? It looks silly seeing grown men fumble around for large parts of the game. It does look good when they hold on to it and kick and pass it but jesus...the rest is silly.

What about if when tackled, the player just gets up and plays the ball?? This rule fixed rugby...

Steven Price would go well in AFL, charging down all those kicks.

Seriously, I only watched the highlights on the news, and was surprised at was a lopsided contest it was. I cant remember an NRL GF where one team dominated so convincingly. Even the 2001 Eels Choke GF had a 2nd half comeback. It does look ptreety easy to score in AFL though. I reckon I would go out there and score at least 5 goals/points/whatever they do.
