The Cap issue with Lyon.

I spoke to 2 very prominant people at the club this morning who have told me that Lyon's contract amendment will not harm our cap at all, in fact with Jamie not playing with us it actually benefits our cap figure, So effictively we may have more money to spend then first imagined.

So, thanks to all those Moanly supporters who were terribly concerned about our situation, you can know rest easy

McKinnon is the only current player off contract who MUST be re-signed.

Widders, Hopkins and a few others would be nice to keep but not really essential if we pick up a Pritchard or Morrison plus the likes of Afamasaga coming through the ranks. We desperately need to get atleast one if not 2 quality backs though. Our right side needs a shake up. Don't think we'll get Tahu but Ryan Cross might be an option worth looking at.

isn't Grothe off contract?

It would also be interesting to see what progresion young Ben Smith makes in the second part of the year, because I would imagine that he's very close to firstgrade selection.

I saw him listed in the paper recently as being off contract but as far as I can remember he signed a 2 year deal which I think other guys in here have confirmed. Same with Stapleton, was in the paper but he has a 2 year deal also.

I thought Grothe was only signed on a one year deal.

Grothe signed for 1 year with an option to us.

Thats right. We have an option with Eric and I say we will take it. In my opinion, Hindmarsh, Cayless and Grothe are the 3 most important players that we MUST have stay with us in the long term.

Thorman was also one year with an option but I would say that the club probably won't activate it as they seem to be in the market for another half. But McKinnon has to be re-signed asap and they should seriously consider just giving Grothe an extension because Hindy et. al are off-contract next season and would probably like to have some idea of the club's direction before they consider staying.

Let's not forget Widders. He has been the catalyst for our wins over the last fortnight and can be a killer player off the bench. He is also a must-resign.

On other players, spoke to Ronald Prince yesterday and he said he has been tabled an offer for next year. Didn't seem too unhappy about it, either, and if I was to take a guess I'd say he will still be here next year.

I think Widders is hot and cold...he tries but will go into his shell if we are going poorly. He is not inspirational enough to exceed when we are going shite....but good on him for yesterdays effort.

Disagree Belly. He hasn't really been used effectively by Brian recently. He's been starting games for us when he should ONLY be used as an impact forward off the bench. He is a specialist super sub. It's always good to have a guy like Widders in the squad for this reason. I'm sure he's not on a big contract so I'd be looking to keep him at the club.

Just calling it as I see it....it was his break but I think it is all too seldom from that bloke. You would have to agree that he is off the boil more than he is not??

He has a role to play in the side that is very important. I agree, he does tend to go missing when used as a starting lock/second rower but he is a genuine strike weapon that can turn a game for us when used properly off the bench. Trust me, go through the games we've played this year, the matches where he has been used off the bench he has either scored or set up a try. Smithy started to use him in the run on side and thats when his effectiveness started to drop off.
