The correct decision

I think the Knights made the correct decision by sacking the player from the weekend & fining the others. It shows that they will not tolerate any misconduct & are tough on this. I hope the NRL & other teams follow their lead if any more of this goes on.
The player need to know they aren't bigger than the game & without the fans there is no NRL.

who was it that got sacked, probably a neville nobody anyway. Whilst they seem to have done the right thing, don't be so sure they would have sacked anyone worth while.

Better than days and days of "truth sessions"......at least Newcastle have set an example. The dirty filthy cheats got a Premiership ring as reward...although I blame my team of good guy chokers for not stopping that.

I wouldn't go around guessing players. Until you know something don't guess as you could be wrong and that could bring rumours into play that cause problems for innocent parties.

What we do know is that it's a young player who's been on the fringe of first grade and been with the club for several years. That still leaves quite a few options from the 12 named.

It's the right decision but this crap that they can't release the name of the player for privacy reasons is painful. So what happens? The player appeals and gets off? Is that why?

Now for the next few weeks we have this media thing happening where it continues to be a story with different bits of information being obtained and released daily.

When will it ever get through to some of these thick skulls that people have to be responsible for their actions??? Perhaps if players need to drink they can go to some remote bush property 300km from anything and drink there. Nah, they probably still find something to make the headlines about.

Whats $5000 to some of these guys? Not much. Yes the Knights did something fast, but other than one guy who 99% of league fans have probably never heard of getting sacked, all they did was give them a little slap on the wrist and a "don't do it again you little rascals".

Raider69, before you edited your post you said something along the lines of 'I bet it was just a lower grade player, they wouldn't sack someone like Kurt Gidley'

Even if it was Andrew Johns himself, it wouldn't matter. There is NO EXCUSE WHATSOEVER for what happened, especially after Coffs. It doesn't matter what your skills are like as a footballer - this is a matter of human decency.

I applaud the Knights and the NRL for their actions so far in handling this case, and pray that other clubs learn from the example.

i didnt edit it, Mods did.
Basically all im saying is you can bet your bottem dollar is wasnt someone that is vital to the knights this year. Whilst id like to believe that the players ability has nothing to do with the action to be taken, sadly it does. I also applaud the knights for their actions but i also have the belief that if the suspect was say Andrew Johns, no way in the f**king world would they sack him.

We Finally agree.

but the players got fined $50,000 collectively, lets see if that happens or they just pay it themselves, or pretend .

Gasnier copped a $50k fine for a phone call to a girl he never met. It was the wrong thing, and the language was foul.

But Will a Dragons player be tempted after a fine like that.

Doubt it.

But the reality is ALCHOHOL, and Attention seekers. When absorbed with Drinking they smiply don't mix.

Do not let any players drink excessively, It's the only answer.

I think its a good move to sack the player.

I would like to have seen ATLEAST $10,000 fines for the players that were involved.

I think its time players started getting unpaid suspensions for their behaviour.

Dane Tilse was the sacked player, but by this stage of the game I think we already know from reading thousands of topics on the scandal who did it.

I say good on the Knights for acting swiftly even if it seems a little 'soft'. Heard a guy on talkback this morning saying 'you'd think they'd learn from the Bulldogs fiasco??" How so?? The Bulldogs dragged it out, refused to accept responsibility and then left it so long to respond that it was too late to have an impact. Congrats to the Knights

And so what if its a Mr Nobody who was sacked. There are lots of Mr Nobodys who trial each year for the NRL maybe at least they'll all sit up and take note

As far as i remember, the report said that the girl who was allegedly assaulted thought her attacker was a fellow student until she was shown a Knights calendar the next morning. That rules out some more high profile players.
I applaud Newcastle for sacking the player involved, and the NRL for freezing his registration.
IMO $50000 amongst 12 players is Sweet FA, and senior players should have been froced to pay a decent chunk of Newcastles fine.
I wonder of the great dick Andrew Johns will take a paycut to help his cash strapped club out.
The alleged victim should press charges, if it were one of us, we would be thinking of how to come up with bail money pending trial, and a football player is a member of society with the same laws and expectations. Being able to tackle and hit a ball up doesn't give you the right to be a sociopath.
