The Cut Off Point.

To try and ensure a higher quality of posts on this community, a few members including myself believe we should perhaps have a cut off point. We don't want the situation like the WORL forum where there are two many members, making any contribution that doesn't get imediatly noticed redundent. With the Footy show link, hoards of Teeny Boppers have jumped on board to discuss such trivial matters as which is the hottest player in the comp and how good the footy show is.I sort of want this to be a safe haven for those of us who wish to discuss the finer points of the game, rather then the Brainwashed hoards who believe Brad Fitler is the greatest player ever and the Super League Vision.

I think 200 is a fair number. This givesus both qualiy and a wide variety of oppinions.

After 200, this community could perhaps poach contributers of other forums. You might nominate a prospective member and get 10 or so representatives to look at an individuals quality and then to invite them to join. Something to protect the group, and to build on the firmly established base that exists now.

200 is a good number and I would say it would take at least a couple of months to reach that point then we can change the settings to restricted and control the grwoth without losing the quality.

This is the message I referred to on the 10,000 thread. Thought I'd bring it forward to see if there were any comments now that there are more than 200 members.

i had forgotten about this thread steve.
i guess it depends what people want, idiots dont last long here and thankfully our banned member count is still zero.
personally, i,m quite happy with the way things are at 218 members. the site will never have the same difficulties which WORL experienced due to the maturity of the members we have.
we get the odd clown but they soon crawl back to where they come from.
merry xmas. whats the temperature outside your place ?

One problem I see with a cut-off point is that we could be seen as elitist snobs...

and Im not a fan of 'voting' for new members - if they cant handle the rules and standards - im sure they'll find something better to do.

Mind you I am aware that I havent been around for a while - so my thoughts on how to 'run' the site may not be relevant.

Merry Christmas to all of you - and I hope to find more time to contribute next year (or the year after at the latest.....)

I don't agree with the cut off point at all. The quality of this forum is still pretty good and we'll never get the numbers in here that worl did.
Their problem was the footy show link that brought a whole lot of members to the site but ruined the quality, the same won't happen with this hopefully and we'll have plenty of people watching closely if it does start to happen.

Instead of a cut off I'd rather just see the forum monitered closely and if a situation like worl starts to arise it can be quickly picked up on, as hazy said if we cut off we may be seen as elitest snobs and it really goes against the whole concept of this forum.

Hazy, your opinion is very relevant regardless of the frequency of your visits. Would be great to see you post often but thats up to you. Merry Xmas to you too.

Steve:
The cut off point was discussed when this community got a bit of a foothold back in July...I recall that at the time the membership was accelerating by the hour but this soon levelled out. The topic hasn't had much of an airing since.

It seems to me that 200 is a good number but 400 is twice as good. IMO, any cut off point would be detrimental to the well-being of the forum. I'm sure LWOS can adjust accordingly to whatever the membership number may be.

The more the merrier I say.

Ozbash: It's -9C right now - not too cold for us. Very little snow where I am, in ski country north of Toronto. But in Buffalo, about 2-3 hrs drive from Toronto, there has been a huge snowfall. They are still digging out from it. The Bills play at the Jets this weekend, a home game would have been interesting.
I agree not limiting the number of members. I read down the members list recently, for the first time. Many of the 200+ names aren't very active anyway.
