Yeah, I saw the video refs make a disgraceful imagining of an obstruction where there was none.
I really don't like the direction the game is going in. These video refs sit in a box and rule on technicalities that go against the real spirit of playing the game. Like Harrigan's justification on teh footy show about awarding tries if there is no separation between ball and pinkie finger, rather than looking for some downward pressure.
Interpretation of the games' rules are being skewed to keep ex-referees in a job, extending their career by sitting in a box pushing buttons. And not giving any increased certainty or authority in decisions despite the technology. If anything they are eroding the authority of the on-field referee, just so they can keep earning a living from the game, instead of making a contribution and moving on like referees of old.
The only thing the video should be used for imo is judiciary evidence after the game. Stick an in-goal touch judge at each end instead, and let the on-field referee be human, and get on with the footy as it's meant to be.
