To be fair, Martina picking Grant and Paps on the bench, then losing Welch early was more of a factor than any dissing of the 2770 boys.

Annoyingly Ivan doesn't seem to have picked up on it with his persistence of running a bench with Salmon and Kenny.

Didn't Melbourne lose 2 players before half time? I'm sure that had nothing to do with the result and it was entirely down to Melbourne dissing Penrith's bogan set

Bellamy was just returning the favour for Ivan playing May at centre in the 2020 grand final and carrying an outside back on the bench.

Its impossible to say where this played any part at all in the victory. Obviously, Ciraldo must have had a feeling that it would have a positive motivational effect on those players, but could easily go the other way.

It’s like clockwork that this story appears just before a Storm/Penrith game. Journo only has to go to the article for the last game, change the intro to reflect how the two teams are travelling, update for injuries etc and then publish.

Quality filler..

One of the best was Andrew Johns sledging Luke Ricketson at halftime in the 2000 GF Qualifier (following is taken from Fox Sports - https://www.foxsports.com.au/nrl/nr...e/news-story/7b63ff33d1e84db2322a08962ed20de9) -

The Knights dominated the first half so comprehensively champion halfback Andrew Johns was already looking ahead to the grand final, sledging Roosters forward Luke Ricketson at the break.

But Joey’s trash talk came back to bite him as Brad Fittler and Co. cottoned on to Newcastle’s new approach in the second stanza.

“We play the first half against the Roosters, I think we were leading 16-2, and I remember walking up the tunnel honestly thinking to myself, ‘We’re going to win this by 40 points’,” Matty said.

“Joey said to Ricko, ‘Mate, get ready for f***ing Mad Monday.

“What had happened in the Roosters sheds, (coach) Graham Murray had picked up that we’re just defending outside-in, we’re pre-empting. Our wingers are coming outside-in, just blindly.

“So he and Freddy (Fittler) had worked it out and in the second half, what was working for us didn’t (work anymore) because he was just catching the ball and throwing double cut-out (passes to get past the wingers rushing in).

“That was a really big lesson.”

Fittler inspired a Roosters comeback and the tri-colours beat the Knights 26-20 to book their place in the decider, where they lost to the Broncos.
