The Foundation Cup

I had an idea, I thought it would be good if Souths, Roosters and Wests Tigers introduced the Foundation Cup.

When these 3 teams play (all twice this year) normal season games, their points are added to a Foundation Cup table. Whoever wins the most games at the end, is the Foundation Cup Champion. They could have all chipped in for a Trophy, and the crowds ( i think) would be larger than normal for these games, if we could replicate a Charity Sheild type feeling to it.

Apparently it would be in breach, because the NRL and their teams cannot create another competition using Telstra Cup games.

Now I know that the Roosters would probably win it for some time, but it would be cool to do. And with us, the Roosters and West Tigers the last remaining Foundation Clubs, it's another part of history, that can be a part of the future.

It's a shame, I think it would have been a money spinner.

What do you guys think? Would Tigers fans be behind this idea?

thats a good idea

also on clubs having their own trophies in the nrl season yes it happens we have a trophy for when we play newcastle , however a 3 team trophy the logistics will be hard especially if a 2 of the sides only play each other 1nce

I'd definitely be behind the idea. Anything that preserves both Balmain and Western Suburbs is worth considering. Wests Tigers already has a jersey to wear, as they could use the team of the century jersey with both club logo's being apart of the jersey. The NRL should be doing more to promote its tradition and foundation.

There are two foundation teams in the NRL

There are six in the NSWRL - that is the right level for the idea. After all the NSWRL is the orignal comp. Would also perhaps do a bit to promote those teams, and that competition, (not to mention highlighting the disgraceful treatment the pioneers of the game have received).

At Premiers level it would be good idea, at NRL just a sad joke.

I think thats a great idea, but maybe something we could do as a pre-season thing? Like always have our trials V roosters and souths. I wouldnt see it being a problem that we are a merged team. We are still representing the Balmain and Western Suburbs clubs.

I can't see how the NRL could stop us if we did it in the normal season. Don't the Cowboys and the Broncos play for the Queensland Cup?

yeah, like yappy said, I don't think wests tigers can be counted as a foundation club. A merger means the end of our status as a foundation club in the nrl competition. While wests tigers represents balmain and wests, it is a recently form club that is in no way a foundation club.
