I want to look at tonights game from two different perspectives.
From a Coaching point of veiw, it was a much better performance than last week and something to build on. I actually counted 4 phases of play in the one tackle which is excellant. The boys turned up tonight and had a dig. We are building to something very good and we are making steps in the right direction. Special mention to Reick, Kimmorley and Sullivan who went really well tonight.
From a supporters point of veiw it was extremely disappointing not to win the game. I know that Peachey is having a dig, but if we had a back up fullback ready to go I would put him in. Peachey's lack of discipline is disgraceful. His grubber in traffic where they picked the ball up to score along with his spell in the bin cost us 12 points.
McGoldrick is not up to First Grade standard, I am sure most sgree with that. I don't beleive that Hilder is up to the standard at the moment either. I think he is a good defender, but he really lacks penetration in attack. Bailey also needs to really pull his head in as well.
Regarding the referee, there were no doubt we copped the bad end of the stick BUT we need to rise above all of that and not be so petty. The fact is that Sullivan dropped the ball in good field position close to the line as did Bird off a goal line drop out. We had our chances and didn't take them. Simple.
The defensive effort was outstanding I have to say. A run away try and a charge down were 12 Bulldogs points. It was a great team efoort in defence.
All in all if I had asked most supporters if they would be satisfied to lose by 4 would they be happy??? I guess the majority would say yes, although the game was definately there for the taking AND THAT is what could cost us at the end of the year.
