The Great Britain Split

Just wondering when the official Great Britain split off happened?

The earliest I can remember GB still compete against Aus and NZ was in the early/mid 2000's, but when was it official that Great Britain would no longer have a team?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2007_All_Golds_Tour

The 2007 end of season home test series vs New Zealand was the last time Great Britain competed as a team, and the dismantling into England/Wales/Scotland/Ireland occurred as the World Cup was the following year.

There was supposed to be a Great Britain tour of Australia/NZ last year, but it was ditched at the last minute.

Australia has been playing the Wales since 1908

But the 1975 World Series seems to have been a trigger

That's not true. After the RLIF meeting in May 2014 in Sydney, Nigel Wood said he proposed the tour but Australia was hesitant.

Would be alot of grey area now with these tier rules and heritage players. Could Coote, Frizzell, Linnett etc play for GB?

Not much point in bringing it back though I think, maybe very occasionally for special anniversaries or something as a one off game.

Would wales, scotland and ireland support it?

The RLi said it wouldn't,they said they want to focus on ireland being a stand alone test nation..

Im not opposed to it coming back for special occassions,2020 being the next big one,125 years of rugby league,as long as a few critiera are met.

1. We take a massive squad, like 40 players so we can play tests at the weekend and mid week tests..so 3 tests v Oz or Nz & 3 mid week tests v png, fiji & samoa for example

2. All players must be born in Great britain (& ireland) *edited*

3. If we do it we only do it once every 10 years.

Im flat out against GB coming back as a regular or even semi regular team...but i can live with it being once a decade,2020 is a "tour year" but would impact 2021 RLWCQ..then it goes back to whether the celts would support it?

This is what i argued with mascord about on twitter when he kept pushing the GB tour and the impact it has on the home nations and it undermining the work they've done building their brands over the last 10 years, england & wales especially.

Well if you want all players born in GB then that solves the Irish issue you were discussing.
It simply wouldn't and shouldn't happen in 2016, take the ball deliverer for the grand final for instance he would be excluded as well as Dan Sarginson.

Maybe Origin like eligibility rules where the player has to have moved to GB before 12 and spent X amount of years there.

But that's IF the concept ever comes back, which I wouldn't mind occasionally for milestone anniversaries but not much other than that.

But still British/Irish born. Fair enough no heritage players I'm fine with that but life isn't as simple as your rule implies you can't exclude British people from the side. Aussies with British grandparents is another issue.

Jim just gave you a simple work around..

Born in GB&I
Been here since 12 years old

Seems simple to me

So what if your an Afghan refugee who came here at 13?
What if your dad was posted in Germany with the army until you were 13?

Nope not to you sunshine..

Thats a shame petal. It wouldn't matter I'm fairly sure if you tried your idea and someone was excluded they RFL would find themselves before the court for arbitration for sport. It would probably have an impact on any funding the sports gets from the lottery or government also. By all means don't select non Brits with British roots but you can't discriminate against brits
