Before this round of games....
Minimum for top 6 500 runs first-class season 03/04
Minimum minimum for 8-11 20 wkts first-class season 03/04

1. Matthew Hayden (7 mts, 961 runs @ 96.10)
2. Martin Love (8 mts, 865 runs @ 66.53, 0/6)
3. Ricky Ponting (6 mts, 965 runs @ 107.22, 0/19)
4. Daniel Marsh (8 mts, 660 runs @ 73.33, 3 wkts @ 94.33)
5. David Hussey (9 mts, 833 runs @ 75.72, 1 wkt @ 79.00)
6. Simon Katich (11 mts, 1301 runs @ 86.73, 17 wkts @ 32.29)
7. Wade Seccombe (8 mts, 393 runs @ 35.72, 43 dismissals)
8. Cameron White (9 mts, 463 runs @ 38.58, 22 wkts @ 36.31)
9. Damien Wright (8 mts, 165 runs @ 18.33, 37 wkts @ 22.43)
10. Michael Kasprowicz (5 mts, 96 runs @ 24.00, 24 wkts @ 23.29)
11. Allan Wise (7 mts, 11 runs @ 11.00, 27 wkts @ 22.18 )

Missing from the current Test side (side that played in Sydney) are the following.......
Justin Langer (11 mts, 1005 runs @ 50.25, 0/5)
Damien Martyn (6 mts, 339 runs @ 42.37, 0/70)
Adam Gilchrist (6 mts, 229 runs @ 32.71, 22 dismissals)
Brett Lee (6 mts, 128 runs @ 32.00, 24 wkts @ 43.37)
Jason Gillespie (6 mts, 168 runs @ 28.00, 26 wkts @ 24.11)
Stuart MacGill (10 mts, 38 runs @ 6.33, 36 wkts @ 47.25)
Nathan Bracken (5 mts, 21 runs @ 7.00, 16 wkts @ 36.25)

That's not counting Steve Waugh's figures because he's finished.

So looking at that, Hayden, Ponting and Katich are the only ones that should actually be there and the only ones that you would consider unlucky not to be counted in that side are Gillespie (definently) and probably Langer as well.

Thoughts?

If that were our side, i think Sri Lanka would smash us. Out of the list only really Martin Love could feel hard done by not being in the side.

There are some good up and comers, like Hussey in there which is really good for the future, but not just yet.

Who is this Cameron White? He appears everywhere and it's a surprise not to see him in the national team considering he's the Victorian Captain already. He can't turn the ball and can't bat that well either. What good is he. White is MORE of a doushe than Damien Martyn and that's not saying much.

Wright and Wise????

I'd prefer Tait, Cleary and Williams over those two.

Justin Langer scored a ton in Sydney, his place must be retained. Gilchrist is in good form with the bat, Lee is back to his best. Gillespie is always the 2nd string fast bowler to McGrath. That leaves MacGill and Martyn who arent in great form in test cricket.

Even though he got the second most amount of wickets last year, in tests. If you take away the Indian series he was pretty good. I still hate him though :|

No points for guessing who I think should be opening with Hayden

Name Mat I NO Runs HS Ave SR 100 50 Ct St Team

MTG Elliott 8 14 1 868 182 66.76 50.46 4 2 7 - VIC

But add another century and 166 runs to that, an a higher average.

He is the first player to hit 1000 Pura Cup runs in a season.

Cameron White will play for Australia one day, no doubt. A leggie without a leggie? Thats why is is one of the best performed spinners in domestic cricket. He mightnt spin his leggie as much as warnie or macgill, but he has got a good wrong un. His average of 36 might seem high, but you must remember that domestice pitches arent reall spin friendly.

The figures used to put this side together are skewed against the incumbant test players though. For example, how would those bowlings stats be looking fi wise and wright missed pura cup games and were bowling to dravid and laxman?

I agree 100% with Fish eel, when you look at the batsman in Pura cup cricket and compare them with Virender Sehwag, Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman and Rahul Dravid, there is simply no comparison.

I beleive statistics can sometimes not show true form.

On form I'd say the two most unlucky players to miss from you lone-up Hoggy are Matt Elliott and Stuart Law.

Let me just say that I made that team with the stats BEFORE this round of games...had I used live stats...msrs Elliott and Hodge would be in there.

Cameron White is a selection that is weird because he was the best spinner in 1st class level for this season and his bowling average was 36. Oh how we need Shane Warne in the side.

That is partly due to the quality of pitches or more to the point highways produced for the pura cup. not to many fourth day crumblers around, even at the SCG.

Partly.

Also partly to do with Stu MacGill averaging 47.
