The insular NRL clubs

Brisbane Broncos unlikely to release Jack Reed to play for England this season | thetelegraph.com.au
Doesn't this fool and other CEOs at NRL clubs realise how much money can be made from a properly run International programme. As regards his comments about he has never heard of these games just shows you how insular he is. Is it little wonder that union laughs at us over International competition and at the same time make 100s of million from union Internationals. When are the NRL clubs going to wake up to the fact that International competition would put millions into their coffers as well.

Cool story bro. It's not like we aren't the worst hit club by rep footy... Every. Single. Year!

The problem is not NRL clubs, it's scheduling. Just hold the Internationals outside of the NRL season!

Why should Reed take part in a exhibition game based on the ESL competition?

You rarely see ESL players play Origin.

Right now? I can't think of anybody.

Through out history, a few.

Doesn't happen though.

So it can happen if a player is good enough, it just so happens that most players over there are fairly average, and wouldn't come into Origin consideration anyway.

Clearly not as they denied Queensland from having Smith.

Either way, you can't select ESL players for Origin.

Same should apply to this Exiles match.

Nearly 43,000 for the union game at the Suncorp today. How we in Rugby League wish we could draw a crowd like that for an International. The point must be made as well that Australia are not even a good side, but can draw crowd like this.
In the long term there is more prestige and more money to be made in a strong International programme than there is in SOO.

Perhaps.

But an Exiles game?

Nah, it won't ever come close to Origin.

Also Suncorp regularly draws big crowds for League.

It's not even a "for real" international.......just some cheap imitation of SOO that the Poms have dreamed up.

I don't Blame Paul White for saying no.

Broncos can draw that sort of crowd for a club match, I'm union would give their left and right nut to have that sort of crowd for club rugby

They should draw more, but a lack of international appeal lets the whole the sport down. Hence the biggest team gets small gates, and no one outside /east Aus and north England give a hoot.

It happened with Langer.

Warrington have had some cracking players over the years. The Monaghan bros could go back and play origin now easy.

Probably one or two others around in super league now could do it. NSW are a pretty poor side at the moment. All the best players in super league are Brits now though.

The Exiles game will never be close to origin. I don't know anyone who thinks it will. Its just a good excuse for England to play a game against quality opposition.
