What is the International Rugby League?

I’ll go first.

A lame duck, paper tiger that purports to run the game internationally as long as the ARLC/NRL dictatorship decrees it doesn’t affect SOO or the NRL season..

which is why it gets laughed at and rejected by the big wig international sporting organisations..

Yes/No..??

Kind of!

below the tier 1 nations it is actually doing a cracking job fostering the growth of international RL as seen in the emergence of a number of countries playing the game in mens,,womens and wheelchair in last few years. The International fixture list has never been so full.
what it doesnt have is any power of independent leadership to compel the RFL or ARLC to do anything they dont want to do. So we end up with different rules of the game in different countries, sporadic tier one games, arlc pulling out of a RLWC with no penalties, no fixed long term tournament calendar etc etc.

Their income is pretty much solely reliant on RLWC profit and a bit of other iNternational game skim. Theyve made over 2million GBP losses in last 2 years. In an ideal world a small % of all media deals for RL around the world would flow to it so they are properly funded to grow the sport and advocate in countries where RL is still being marginalized by Union. Even just 1% would give them around $4mill a year revenue.

Very keen to see what the final profit is for RLWC2021, should be much higher than anything the IRL have seen before. Just now need to get that pesky calendar in place so that there are more events to cash in on, not just the WC.

Despite the mid season Pacific tests being cancelled, I think the NRL have seen the light and will help push a post-season tournament for the Pacs, Aus & NZ to play in. Hopefully England put their hand up and get themselves an invite. It is better for the game to have them playing Aus, NZ, Tonga, Samoa every year than pounding everyone in the European Cup.
