I find almost everyone’s experience of the US is a mixed bag, some cities are great, some are experiences like you describe. Most people hate LA for example. I actually don’t mind it, but the first time I went there I definitely thought it was tacky shithole. It IS a tacky shithole, but it’s a tacky shithole you can have fun in once you work out how.
I've quite liked most places I've been in the states

LA is just vast and decentralised a lot like Sydney so yeah as you say, just takes some area familiarity.

Dallas - now there is a shithole.

I actually think the 9pm to midnight timeslots are probably better for us. The reality is as a niche sport we’re simply not going to get a look in in primetime. More chance of getting some air in those later timeslots. I’d be aiming at the west coast and Hawaiian market with its larger Polynesian population first.
Yeah we should definitely be looking at the Pacific coast initially and try to make some money in that market and the two day games are reasonable times, especially given they would be Friday and Saturday night local. There is a fair bit of delusion in this thread as well though so just pointing out that for the most part our times are not suited to the states, especially the east coast.

I'm meh on Hawaii, it has about the same population as Adelaide and people of Asian decent are dominant in the population these days.

Hawaii doesn’t have a big population but I think it’s still an obvious inclusion. It kinda acts as a bridge between the US and the pacific. Plus they don’t have any correct top level pro teams so I think they’d be an easier mark.

I still haven’t been to Texas (or anywhere in the south/southwest). Those parts are next on my list. I’ve mainly visited Cali, the NE and Midwest.

With Aust and NZ being a day in front we can play our Sunday games and it will show live Saturday afternoon. Prev post outling how a NRL Sunday could be played.
If you have a game in NZ on Sunday starting 12.00 , this would equal
10.00 am game Sydney AND ( get to watch NRL all day)
Saturday Night game East Coast/New York at 7.00pm.
If the next game is 12.00 Sydney Sunday or 2pm NZ this would mean
a Saturday night game East coast/NY at 9.00pm

Note all American games would be 3 hours earlier on the west coat (Saturday)
ie New Zealand game kickoff local time SUNDAY 12.00 (NZ) equals 10.00am Sydney
AND New York 7.00pm and LA 4.00pm Saturday.
So we could make Saturday night NRL in America with this two games AND it's better on the West Coast ie LA/SF
The NRL should take ONE home game off every team so as to organize these types of outcomes.

Look we can make it work, Sunday ( in Australia ) would be best for scheduling) as it means Saturday in the USA.

Way to throw the NZ teams under the bus in regards to TV ratings though. I doubt the Warriors or any new franchise are going to be at all keen with midday Sunday kickoffs for all or most of their home games.

Times are wrong, 10AM here after first weekend in April is 8PM EST and 5PM PST

Either way, I'm not sure we should be modifying our whole draw in the hope of getting some viewers in the states. Maybe on the odd occasion but we have our own $1b+ domestic broadcast partners here in Australia to satisfy whose money is still the bread and butter of the NRL and always will be.

I take your point regarding early start in NZ. Maybe a double header where Sydney teams play at 12.noon Sunday
If we make it on Sunday it can go into California at 4 pm Sat..

PR is right on this. The article is PVL just telling us what he hopes happens and the $200m seems a figure he has just come up with randomly.

Also it says gambling + tv revenue

V’landys believes the NRL’s ambitious incursion into the US market can be worth north of $200 million in broadcast-and-gaming revenue - and potentially more if rugby league secures regular prime time slots on American TV.
