The saturation media coverage of this is crazy

This kind of publicity would cost millions to buy and it’s all free
Can you explain to me how this is any different to the usual media coverage we get from News Corp leading into the opening round? Apart from it taking place in a different country?

It's one thing if this is being reported on news broadcasts on ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX etc - but it's literally just the same journos as here, who've flown over there and are asking the same questions and presenting the same info they ordinarily would here, to the same media orgs that then transmit it back here.

Maybe that this is the most we've heard about Super League in Australia in quite some time, otherwise...?

So inviting Hitler is exactly the same as inviting Angela Merkel? They were both Chancellor after all.

Well was Hitler not at the forefront of the 1936 Berlin Olympics?

It happens everywhere in every sport. The heads of State gets invited... more often than not someone with a distant link is sent.

This is from last years Vegas F1. No doubt he is invited to any of the 3 races in the US this year

You think the media normally cover a season launch like this do you ?

When’s the last time channel seven covered the nrl season launch in this detail ?

Even sky England and the bbc are talking about it as are American podcasts and talk shows

100% more buzz about the season launch with Vegas, even on ch 7. But especially huge for super league they haven’t had this kind of exposure either in the UK nor Australia probably ever.

This part is what I'm getting at. Some increased coverage in Australian markets isn't really that huge, and I don't know that it'd be achieving much if any breakthrough.

England, Sky are the broadcasters of the game so that's not all that new. Great to see the football coverage discuss it briefly the other day, hopefully that garners some extra eyes in England, but the broadcast of the game isn't really at a helpful time (9:30pm GMT, the other games then being overnight).

American podcasts and talk shows? Can you be a bit more specific (or were you hoping I wouldn't ask lol)

Sky in England cut the last super league deal and showed little interest in the game. They are pushing it hard including showing sky ads for Vegas during the premier league and on a soccer talk show with Roy Keane saying how much he wants to go

I’ve seen woodsy and other Aussies on American podcasts

Heck Pvl was on Fox and friends and that has around 1.7 million watching

Last years event was a record in terms of the most watched league game ever

They’ve taken two run of the mill nrl games and turned it into a major event

Since they are covering all the costs of the event all of this is free publicity

You can’t buy publicity like that

Edit even with a 930 pm start I bet it gets bumper ratings for sky

Couldn’t do earlier bc English fans would be a huge wait for the next game

Teams are also doing the visits to US sports teams games, facilities etc. and these US teams are posting the visits on their socials which have shitloads of followers. I bet the tigers sponsors would be happy for them to go to Vegas next season.

I think seeing the super league clubs together with the nrl clubs, the English fans and their passionate support, it will surely give PVL more impetus to think hard at seriously buying the super league or at least doing more cross promotion and partnership.

Or taking nrl games to England too

Or even an origin at Wembley

Could help more Aussies watching super league here which helps their tv deal

Edit Martin offiah on the natty johns show

I don't really see this as responding to anything I've asked you. Woodsy and other Aussies on American podcasts is vague and unhelpful.

PVL being on F+F and just using their average viewership as evidence (what time was it on, how many were watching at that time?) and he was on for what, 45 seconds?

I don't have any specific beef with Vegas, the concept or its execution, I just reckon we could do without the over-egging and borderline sycophantic attitude toward it. I don't see it - at this point - expanding the game in a meaningful way.

What did you expect after two years that it would be a big sport in America ??? lol

Getting 50k people watching rugby league in America is a huge achievement

Even 60k watching on Foxsports in America is a great result

What’s the alternative ?

Have the season launch as taking a photo with the nrl captains of the harbour bridge then Canberra v warriors in Canberra then sharks v Penrith at shark park

Lots of people are talking about rugby league. Many who have never heard of the sport before

All the social media it’s getting will be seen by millions and millions

Hmm some strange takes on here by those bagging the Vegas launch.

At minimum, it’s turned into a far more interesting and impactful way to start the season which makes the NRL look really good. If you can’t see the increased buzz and media attention locally then I’m not sure what to say. Would it be better to just have the usual press launch at the opera house and then kick it off like any other round?

But this exposure of the game in new and untapped pockets will yield dividends in some obvious ways and some ways we can’t foresee. All the networking in the US, all the doorways that will open up for collaborations and sponsorships.

it’s clearly having an impact locally with the massive ratings these otherwise regular games would get. Last year was seen as a success even in afl circles and you can be sure that they wish they could have a season launch like this.

I see you are new to wb1234. He's a 50+ year old man who acts like a 14 yo girl who just saw Justin Bieber.
