Also I think it's overblown that here in Australia we're obsessed about the branding of rugby union vs rugby league - why do we want to effectively cede the name Rugby to union? I prefer how it works in the UK, leaguies say 'Rugby', they own it. We get benefits of being known as a rugby code.

We just need to be the biggest and best rugby competition. It draws worldwide union attention to the NRL.
Rugby union has always claimed league as an illegitimate sport and they are the true rugby code

They did a rebrand in the 90s renaming everything rugby

I can understand union fans calling their game that but league fans should know better

Another problem I can see is the branding of it called rugby league Las Vegas. It should be called NRL Las Vegas. We want to drive people to follow and search NRL.

This is where NRL investing in super league and rebranding it as NRL will be beneficial for both leagues.

We don't want to be giving Rugby Union a free kick in exposure
NRL and NRL UK

I just think we gotta go balls deep on NRL like the NFL has gone balls deep on that. Noone says 'gridiron' or 'american football'.

Who cares then if people think NRL is a form of Rugby or Rugby League etc we don't need to change the name of the sport.

The key takeaway we want people to have is this: NRL is the biggest and best rugby competition on the planet.
NRL is the best brand, exactly like you say, it's like NFL and that's why I'm hoping the NRL buy SL and give it the same brand, it'll boost their profile and obviously the NRL as a whole.
And when it's not obvious as to which NRL, it's simple sub titled Northern or Southern to specify when needed.
Rugby league is still a problem for internationals though, I think the French already solved the problem - Rugby 13's
The nickname for our sport then just becomes NRL or 13's

I wonder if the DAZN bloke (or someone) might be interested in the NRL rights into the UK for starters, alongside the Super League (NRL E) rights.

Or NRL Pacific and NRL Atlantic
I think here , when you talk NRL, obviously everyone knows what you're talking about. People will just say NRL and the same in Europe. Logo , exactly the same, everything the same. But if I wanted to touch on something in Europe, you'd simply specify by saying the Northern conference or comp and vis versa.
Maybe it's Pacific and Atlantic.. point is , the branding and logo is the same.
NRL.

It should 100% be NRL and NRL Europe. It makes sense largely for the branding, any tweaks and redesigns, assets, commercials, broadcasting, WatchNRL app, NRL bunker et al. There would be one set of NRL rules for both competitions which would also mean NRL rules would become international rules.

Our sport is Rugby League, the same as American Football, but the commercial and engagement cut through will be the term NRL. It was just happenstance that, when introduced, it had the same ring as NFL and NBA and NHL etc - we need to cash in on that. Then Vegas and Global rounds featuring NRL and SL clubs can just be called NRL global round. Young demographics in Australasia are just called the sport NRL now anyway.

I maintain NRL Europe would be a ridiculous name. Granted, the amount of times I’ve heard “National Rugby League” said on TV over here is probably on one hand, it just doesn’t flow with a continent after the National part.

Firstly, like you say, nobody actually says national rugby league - the NRL is already in two countries, so it's already incorrect. But that's semantics and nobody cares. Secondly, if you're in England or France, you wouldn't say NRL.. Europe, you just say NRL.
You're only saying Europe when it's not obvious, like if you're making mention of it in Australia for example.

I don't think " Europe" needs to be in the actual name, you just say that to specify if it wasn't clear.

Fans might not but broadcasters and TV hosts will have to differentiate and that’s where it sounds plainly ridiculous.

It’s definitely called rugby over here and in towns where it’s played. Footy is an Australianism that a couple of commentators have tried to copying from the NRL but to no success.

Yes exactly. Hopefully it would just be called the NRL in the UK and France too. The other option is to call them premierships etc. NRL is currently the Telstra Premiership. So it could be Pacific Premiership and European Premiership - especially when PNG join.

These would just be honorary titles for sponsors and competitions, nearly everyone would refer to it as NRL (or footy or rugby depending where you are in the world). Would also lend itself to the World Club Challenge really feeling like a battle of the 2 NRL premierships (and across 5 countries).
