This will be the icing on the cake. NZ, Australia, PNG, England, USA, WatchNRL, how many people going to watch these games, could be in the ten`s of millions.
Players are loving it

Business class flights luxury hotels all paid for by the nrl

They shut down a famous Vegas tourist attraction today (some bridge over the Grand Canyon) only for players and media to be on it

So the idea for the Vegas nines wasn’t Pvl lol

And why ignore the comments from the usarl how it’s helped grow their game

You’re blinded by a dislike of Pvl that’s how it comes across

Certainly not factual at all

This event has helped grow the grassroots and amateur game in America and that’s coming from people actually on the ground

You haven’t pointed out any negatives or what they should be doing differently in America and why the current approach isn’t a good one
No, you've gish galloped, failed to read most of what has been said to you, and invented arguments because you can't bear the idea of your faithful leader receiving even a modicum of criticism.

Name one single thing that’s wrong with the current format and how it can be improved

Are you this negative about the nfl doing exactly the same thing by taking games overseas as they are doing with Melbourne ?

And Pvl is the best leader rugby league has had since jj gillitnan but that’s really for another thread

I've seen a fair bit of criticism about the NFL Melbourne idea. But I'd also suggest the NFL is far more popular here than NRL is there so it's not really a fair comparison.

Don't care no more outside the defeatist attitude of some, if you never give it a real go, you'll never succeed. It has to start somewhere.
Why is everything black and white? Why does it have to be either unwavering no questions asked support, or "defeatist attitude"? I've said several times I'm broadly on board with it. I just don't know what the end game is with it. Do we just do it every year for the rest of time? What's the long game?

I think those are fair questions. But apparently anything outside PVL being praised like the leader of the movementarians is being defeatist 😂

Man that’s a massive double standard

And again the nrl has to start from somewhere

The nrl takes games on the road to Perth too

Given the lack of grassroots investment there then that must be a fail too

See where this is going.

Short term goals

1. Launch season with a bang
2. Give players an experience travelling which they normally wouldn’t get
3. Cover costs / make money

Longer term

1. Semi pro league in USA (has been bubbling around for a while now)
2. Rugby league World Cup in USA
3. Netflix Amazon Google or similar investing in the Australian tv rights
4. New sponsors, gambling deal etc

Where is the double standard? The NRL and NFL are not a straight swap. The NFL is vastly more popular overall, and more popular in Aus than the NRL is in the US. That's called reality.

Not engaging with the Perth rubbish as it ventures a bit far off topic.

The NRL confirmed a small loss last year, That I put anywhere up to $10m.

You are dropping that on any Season Launch which has no benefit to the game overall.

Which yes Vegas may not get to any of the lofty heights the NRL has suggested, atleast there is a possibly and that is what makes the venture worth while.

Having the AFL loving ch7 sending reporters for a week of content is more traction, as it is the biggest FTA network and likely is fans of other sports.

So even if US aren't taking notice. RL in Australia, NZ and UK can all do with the boost in exposure in it's local markets.

You appear to yet again have conflated constructing criticism and asking questions with saying Vegas isn't a great idea, which also proves yet again you can't even be bothered reading the things being written in response to you.

Hi Timmah, I agree with alot of your comments. Yes PVL and the rest of the NRL admin should be praised for how they have placed the game in a much stronger financial position and are looking to grow it but at the same time should also be questioned when necessary. I think taking the game to Vegas is good, but it feels like the rhetoric has gone from we only want to capture 1% of the US gambling $ and TV ratings and the money will roll in to what a great way to launch the NRL season, the publicity it has achieved compared to having a local launch and it's a great trip away for supporters (which are all true, but they would have been well down the list of why the NRL has gone to Vegas).

I posted earlier that based on about 50k tickets sold, less that 15k appear to have been bought by American's once you take away tickets bought by Aussie's, Kiwi's and Pom's travelling. And I would say a large % of the 15k would be expats in the US craving to watch a game live. While not fair to compare the NFL, NBA and Baseball with the NRL as they have global recognition, they would draw much larger crowds in Australia from locals despite our much smaller population compared to the US take up of NRL tickets.

As others have noted what do we expect to have happened after 1 year. It would be interesting if there are figures available as to number of tickets sold to American's last year compared to this year and also tv ratings and gambling dollars.

You’re being like the chairman of your club Gus

You were critical of it without actually providing an alternative

Nor did you even say what was wrong with it other than ask a vague question of whether this is the best way to grow the game in the USA

A) it’s better than doing nothing

B) it’s not about growing the game in America much at this early stage

If this event is still happening ten years from now then it will have grown the domestic game there in a meaningful way
