The Love Affair with Tom Humble

I will first say that I am in no way fans of the Daniel Mortimer/Jeff Robson halves combination. But Im interested to hear from others about why there is this love affair for Tom Humble to be in the halves in this first grade team.

I watched all his games in first grade last year. In all those games I watched nothing to suggest that he is an organising player and nothing to suggest that he is a more than capable first grade half-back than Jeff Robson. That is saying something considering that I think we will go no where with Robson in the 7!

He seems to be to be a running player, perhaps a full-back...but he's not going to get a run at full-back in this team obviously

Now I will freely admit that I have never seen any Wenty games and I have no idea how he has gone in those games. Can someone elaborate on first hand knowledge what he has shown in those games to be considered a first grade half or five-eighth?

It would shock me beyond disbelief from what I have seen of him last year if he was going to be a better option than Daniel Mortimer if he was going to play five-eighth outside of Jeff Robson.

Is it just the fact that people want someone else in the 6 or 7 that isnt Mortimer or Robson? Or can someone see some potential thats not been displayed so far......

Anyone would be better than Robson, he is just not up to it

In a way because he is so useless, it makes Morts role as a rum=nner and back up lookm worse than it is. To be blunt, we was signed at the club to play fopr Wenty and that is his level, just look at the game Friday night and that is what we have got. Unfortunately there is not much around, cast your eyes in Big League at the 7s in lower grades, they are a bit better than Robbo but whats the point when we have signed the bloke.

I'd prefer Humble to come into firsts in the centres with Reddy tbh, rather than the halves.

Humble has had four weeks of experience in the centres in the top grade, I reckon he'd do better there than Walker or Morgan or Whatuira have.

Maybe bring Reddy back next to Morgan for another week, give Humble a run for Wenty, and then bring Humble in for Morgan once he's had his four week taste of firsts (which will do him good for future years).

Just switch Robson and Mortimers names around in Delboys post.

I actually think both morts and Robson are not up to it. But I laugh when I see people say Morts is so sh*t because of Robson.

What I can say is I saw 16 matches in Qld cup all at no 6 .

He was outstanding...really stood out.

He is not a 7. He is a running 6 who can kick. Do not play him at fullback.

Needs to be used like the tigers use Benji.

Free Humble!!!!!!

The sad thing is the tigers are playing a guy on the wing ATM who is a better halfback than anyone we have at our club

pretty tough to judge a guy on his first grade games when he's shadowing for Hayne at FULLBACK.

Mortimer should be the first one dropped, Robbo at least shows glimpses.

Morts is a deadset joke I can't believe some people would want him and humble in the halves.

If anything robbo/humble atleast robbo can score a try and seems to look like he has a idea sure he is not great but I see him in the Ben hornby type of halfback.

Morts still looks lost out there and has the worst long kicking game ever it's slow and high and gives the fullback plenty of time to get to the ball. His running game is now predictable which is what he used to be good at.

Worth a shot, tough gig for him though, I'd like to see Burt move closer to the line at certain times throughout the game.

So did Humble play for Wenty yesterday ? If so, does that mean that it's all OK now ?

You have not answered his question. What about Humble?

No, he hasn`t. People just make things up on this forum. In his six games in first grade, Tom Humble played fullback; centre (once); hooker; 3/4 of a game at five-eight (got pole-axed by Anthony Whatmough), some half-back and some wing.
He could be an option at centre - especially if he`s bulked up a little, but I really see his best position is five-eight, and I think that`s where he`d do most good for this team.

No. It`s a Humble love affair. The kid is terrific. If he gets a chance to play ten or so first grade games in a row, you`ll be in love with him too.

I agree lingard.

But not centre, not fullback, not halfback. Play him @ 6 that is what he is.

I don't share the Mortimer hate either, I think he is a promising young player, who is better closer to the ruck, sniffing around for offloads and backing up breaks.

People say there is no difference between 6 and 7, I disagree there too. You 7 should direct the team around, and 6 left to get the backs moving in space. Both need to kick in general play, but 7 should do most, in Parra case you also have Hayne as athird option.

Tiny faced Wayne Bennett would play Humble........

The real question is he fit and able to play?
