Whats people take on "The Man Mundine" when he was playing for us. Personally I think he was greedy little pig who lost us the 1999 GF.

Mundine was an excellent player who won us more games than lost.
To me he retired to early to go to boxing. He would have been a regular rep player if he'd stayed in the game.We never saw the best of him which is a shame.
The 99 GF wasn't lost because of Mundine, the whole team were to blame for that loss considering the lead we had at halftimeThey came out in the second half thinking they'd already won and gave Melbourne a sniff which they took and won.......all history now!

Agree with all of this. A lot of people hate him. I love him. I reckon he's a great athlete. Just wish he kept his mouth shut an concentrated on league. He could have been one of the greats.

Every bit as good as Benji, would be a star today. The way he tore up the Scum the week before 99 GF,but unfortunately if only he grounded that ball for a try.:(
I ,like many who have met him do regard him as a top bloke, unfortunately the Ali persona has been taken too too far and has stuffed his reputation.

Great athlete. Trouble is his mouth runs faster than his legs. Wish he had stuck to league. Would have been one of the greats.

Wish he was as good as he talked himself up to be.
We'd have won three Premmies with him.

I can't remember watching Mundine because I was really young. What were his attributes? He did seem to have the Benji in him, but was he also an organiser/kicker and ball player like Cronk and Thurston?

Just an all round athele N.
Speed was blistering off the mark, swerve step you name it.
Great support play and had a eiry like awareness of where blacklock would be on the field.
Awesome talent.

I will never forget the semi final against the sharks. He won us that game with brilliance.

3 tries... 3 very different tries.

1. Pass from Browny at dummy half to Choc, beats 3 to score close range.
2. Lovely chip from Browny, Choc leaps over Peachy to score.
3. Out of nowhere, find a gap mid feild some 30 metres out, scores in corner.

Ahh those where the moments.

o Brilliant player, I was devastated when he retire early, that side could have kicked on...

o I still think he made the right call in the 99 GF, throwing an extra flat pass close to the line is riskier than putting it down yourself, unfortunately he just got hit high/awkwardly.

o With his Boxing... the haters still make me laugh, they get so angry, yet their anger is what generates all the money & publicity.... I even know Pregnant Mums and women I work with who have never watched a fight in their lives, but are going to pubs, posting their rage on social media.. all over a few words and a bit of showmanship... they take it all much too seriously.

Agree tgat choc makes his money on being hated. And generally I could cop that, but it's things like his comments on Danny geale and his wife abd family thst just make me glad Danny shut him up.

Anthony Mundine will never be as good as he conststantly told everyone. The sad thing though is he could've been great at both league and boxing. Now he will be known as a "could a"

Based on natural talent and ability he has to be the best Saints player I've seen in the near 30 years I've been following the Dragons. Dropped two crucial balls over the tryline that I can remember 99 being one and 95 against Canterbury in a semi final where we lost something like 7-6? The Dogs went on to win the comp that year.

As for boxing and polarising opinions he did a very good job playing the villain on his way to making millions simply from people tuning in to watch him get humbled which didn't happen very often. I have met him and he is as humble a sportsman as they come in the real world sense, no boasting etc etc, quite the opposite. Can't agree with everything he has said over time but I believe he is a good person and that counts for a lot in my opinion.

Well said Minh and I have to agree he was a real talented footballer. I also had the pleasure of meeting both him and his father together and was totally surprised just how humble and respectful they both were. A complete opposite of the "MAN" act and persona that is portrayed to create interest and be devisive. I turn off when I see the act on TV....its all make believe to sell !!

Exactly Coffs dragon and that persona doesn't do him any favors or any justice to the real man away from the cameras, although it's boosted his bank account significantly which would have not been possible had he just kept quiet like say a Daniel Geale type of personality, which is very respectable of Daniel.

*Haters that gotta hate.A myth kept alive by *

Jasper... we wouldnt have been in the GF is it wasnt for his amazing 40 minutes against the sharks.
As for losing the 99 GF... watch the game again. There are atleast 5 different incidents that changed the course of that game in the second half.

Choc is an enigma.
Yep he can alienate people with some really dumb comments, some that hit the international media.
But apart from his perceived arrogance, what had he done wrong ? Compared to some footballers he is a model to kids. His work in the indigenous community is second to none. His stance on ElephantJuice and alcohol abuse have saved many street kids whom look up to him. Met him in 96 and 99, both before the GF's. Humble, approachable and passionate. I think a lot of the venom towards him is camouflaged jealousy, as he had done very nicely thank you. The fact that you can get people to pay money on pay TV, or live, to watch you lose says it all.
