I am lost for words.. how did we lose?

I don't think I've ever seen us dominate a game that well and lose. And the truly sad thing is there is nobody to blame but Pompey's defence, f**king amazing. We had a very good shout for a penalty in the first half but f**k me, apart from that, I could find at least 5 more chances that were bordering on absolute certainties.

TWICE James was caught away from the goal and a defender cleared it off the line, Campbell produced an amazing clearance from a cross, Evra hit the post, Ronaldo put clean through and f**ked the shot, that chance Carrick had was just embarrassing, I'd drop him on the principle that I could have put that away. Then the penalty and Kczkzkzkzak being sent off, and the penalty was hit so perfectly, any less and Rio would have saved it.

I don't know whether to feel angry that we should have won or be in awe of Pompey's performance. Who said English football was boring?

Im a Man U supporter. We played quite well, but Portsmouth's defence had that annoying combination of skill and luck.

Great win for Portsmouth though. I thought we were much better, but they made the crucial plays.

Oh and while I'm at it, f**k our home support, there's these two guys who ALWAYS get on TV, they wear turbans, sit in the front row, have the latest kit on every year and you'll NEVER see them singing, cheering or even smiling. I hate them and every other one of those silent prats who allow themselves to be outsung by the away supporters every f**king game.

I heard the Ronaldo song for about 30 seconds and that was the only time I heard United supporters signing, the rest was Pompey and fair play to them, their fans deserved something.

Ronaldo was not f*cking brought down...

Shoulder to shoulder contact is more than acceptable in a tussle for the ball. Just because Ronaldo is a weak prick and knew that he had to hit the deck because he was always going to be outmuscled and Distin would have won the ball.

are you kidding? you gonna give that a penalty? tbh i'm surprised it wasn't because it doesn't take much for a united penalty at home

i dunno, it seemed close, dont get me wrong i got no problems with it not being given and the opposition getting a dodgy pen at OT for once.

Perhaps 06/07! You guys need to get with the times though. United struggle to get a penalty anywhere anymore.

Shoulder to shoulder is perfectly fine when both players are going for the ball. Hell, that exact scenario happened later in the first half when a Portsmouth player bought down Nani in the penalty area. They were both going for the ball, the Portsmouth player was stronger and muscled Nani out of the way. No problem at all, great defending.

But if you honestly think that Distin was even thinking about the ball when he knocked over Ronaldo you seriously need to see an optometrist. He came in at a 90 degree angle from how Ronaldo and the ball were running, and put on what was virtually a league shoulder-barge while the ball was a good metre away.

I never said he didn't push Ronaldo intentionally and I never said Distin wanted the ball. I'm saying in that situation, whatever the motive, shoulder to shoulder contact is more than appropriate, whether his motive was to push Ronaldo or to win the ball, no one but himslef can determine that so how can it be given.

Yeah it's perfectly acceptable to charge into a player and smash him off the ball with no intention of making a legitimate tackle.

Off with you, back to your thread, considering we still made it further than you and you've just dropped 2 points at Wigan, I'd say you have bigger things to worry about. I'd send Red Bear on his way too but I'm not sure the fight for fourth place is as stressful .

The little fact he was no where near the ball, the angle he was coming in at was actually taking him further away from the ball, and that he wasn't even looking at the ball, kind of gives it away. The ref was in brilliant position to see all that, and yet still somehow waved play on.

Diarra did an identical foul on Ronaldo in the opening minute of the match and it was blown as a foul. But the ref chickened out the second time because he didn't want to give a penalty.

 'Smash' him off the ball. Watching Ronaldo fall is like blowing a petal off a flower. There was definietly contact, yet how much contact was there really, and Ronaldo didn't make a mess of it at all, did he??? :sarcasm:

How was there no intenntion of making a legitimite tackle, the overall outcome of the challenge was to win the ball, highly legitimate to me, no matter how he managed to do so by a bit of push and shove with the weakest player in the premiership. Ronaldo should have just pushed him back instead of falling on the floor.

He can harden the f*ck up, simple as that, he's not untouchable.

I honestly can't wait for the day, Ronaldo is doing steppovers down the line and someone run out onto the field and whacks the b*stard in the head and see what he does then...

So you're running down a street. Suddenly a big man runs out of a sidestreet and barges into your side just about as hard as he could. What happens next?

Also, there's the little fact that Distin got nowhere near the ball. And never made any play at it. He simply barged into Ronaldo to stop him.

Err, you do realise he's probably the most consistently seriously fouled player in Europe? Every single team he plays tries to kick him out of the match. The likes of Messi and Robben are in leagues where they are better protected by the refs and they still miss 50% of the matches through injury. Whereas Ronaldo barely misses any matches, which sometimes seems to make referee's think he's invulnerable and let the defenders kick away at him for entire matches.

Le Arse tripping over themselves

Foster is fantastic, dodgy clearances but brilliant saves. This after nearly a year out with only one reserves game to his name.
