with all the raving and ranting and hooplah that went on this time last year about so much of our 'talent' fleeing from Parra with Crusher Cleal to Brookvale, i thought it might be an interesting little exercise to just review the situation a little, and discuss how those players performed at their new club; a club by the way which will have finished below (or at best on level points with) Parra on the table at the conclusion of this weekend's games.
Daniel Heckenberg has been a regular member of the first grade side and i will give him the benefit of the doubt in saying that he's had a pretty good season, certainly a better one than he gave the Eels in 2003. Good luck to him.
Kylie Leululai looks to have gotten a bit more opportunity at Manly than he did at Parra but seems to have done almost as little with it. Still puts on some big hits and is solid enough but i doubt that we miss him or that Manly have gained that much.
Shane Dunley i haven't seen much of, but he looks like he has played about as much at the Sea Eagles as he did at Parra last season. Used in that same bench role and hasn't exactly set the world on fire, but has probably had his moments. I thought he was a handy contributor to Parra off the bench but i don't reckon he's been so special for Manly.
And these were the three positives to come out of Manly's off season Parra shopping spree.
Jeff Robson, Kane Cleal, & Nathan Hollingsworthhave had a handful of first grade games between them. Hardly setting the world on fire at any stage and surely noone is regretting their loss to the Eels.
This may seem like an old topic, but i merely make the points above because i think there was way too much hype being spun by 2GB, other arms of the media, and some posters in these forums, and i think the net result is that really only Daniel Heckenberg has kicked on and made a bigger name for himself than he had at Parra. I'm interested in anyone else's thoughts however because i do live in Melbourne and don't get to see as much Premier League as i would like - after all that's where most of these players did most of their footballing this year!!!
