WA without 11 star players for Marsh Cup opener
Hilton Cartwright and Matt Kelly join nine members of Australia's T20 squad in missing Tuesday's game against South Australia

Hilton Cartwright has joined a long list of absentees for Western Australia's Marsh One-Day Cup opener on Tuesday, with the defending champions already without nine first-choice players for the match against South Australia.

Cartwright has been ruled out of the game in Perth - which will be shown live on cricket.com.au, the CA Live app, Fox Cricket & Kayo Sports - after suffering a debilitating back spasm in the Marsh Sheffield Shield over the weekend, which left him barely able to stand up late on the third day.

WA already had nine star players unavailable due to Australia's T20 tour of New Zealand, including paceman AJ Tye, who is not contracted but has said he plans to feature in the Marsh Cup later this month.

Warner back for the blues on Thursday v SA

Good timing as Smith and Hughes are out

David Warner will return to action for the first time since the end of the Test series against India having been named in the New South Wales squad for their Marsh Cup match against South Australia in Adelaide.

Warner played the last two Tests while still significantly hampered by the groin injury he sustained in the ODIs at the end of November which ruled him out of the rest of the white-ball matches and first two Tests.

Speaking on commentary of the New Zealand-Australia T20I series last week, Warner said how he expected to feel the effects of the injury for up to nine months but he is hopeful that it can be managed.

Warner comes into the New South Wales squad as a replacement for Daniel Hughes who has a shoulder injury. Steven Smith remains sidelined by the elbow problem which he first felt at the end of the series against India and has since flared up during his return to domestic cricket.

"We all know Davey's quality as a player in all formats and it's great to see him back for the Blues for this game," New South Wales coach Phil Jaques said
