Clubs and state bodies received more money than at any time in the history of the game. Only a matter of time until they are all financially stable.

I am just following orders of el dribbler that there will no no analytical debate of the arlc' performance and only positive comments allowed.

Great to see continued participation growth in the expansion RL states.

Nrl's $52 million investment fund generated greater returns than expected, more money into the game.

NRL announces $18 million loss

The NRL recently announced its financial results for the 2015 season. It lost $18 million. This is the worst financial result since the NRL was formed back in 1999.
It comes at a time when the NRL has just generated more money in a single season than ever before. We are being asked to accept that in 2012 it cost $190 million to run the game of rugby league. In 2015 the league spent $390 million to run the game.
As it turns out that was $18 million more than they actually generated. In the same financial report, it's been conceded that the game actually went backwards in a number of benchmark areas.
One could easily draw the conclusion from those results that whatever programs or policies we spent the money on, perhaps a lot of it isn't working. No one seems to be asking any questions, so I assume we are all happy with the result? Let me know what you think.

Somebody hasn't read el dribblers edict

Sure they made a loss but look at all the positives, and nice photos.

What were the expected returns versus the actual achieved. Tell us more, oh bona fide positive one.

You don't need to know such detail, just sleep easy that they were above predictions. The rest of the revenue increase was primarily by putting ticket prices, good business by the NRL, fans can always pay more.

The game is in an improved state, but obviously there is still a lot of work to do.

For eg. http://www.nospam49.com/what-could-the-nrl-spend-101095000-on-instead-of-marketing-8307/

They are also still apparently hiring morons. Today's earlier headlines in the news "NRL Womens Adviser Catharine Lumby Wants Mitchell Pearce Banned For Life." Really? For life? Is she geniused? You work for the NRL and call radio station's in your spare time to fan the flames and try and kick up more of a storm against NRL players?

By way of comparison, I see the AFLs report shows:

* Annual Profit = $2.5m down by $10m
* Revenue = $506m up by $33m
* Expenditure = $168M up by $12.7m
* Club Distributions = $245.2m up by $26.9m

Who is to blame?

Take your pick:
GM's - they're responsible for managing operational budgets
CEO - responsible for oversight of profit/loss
Commission Finance committee - responsible for overall financial governance

Where we lost money
Revenue $353.8million
Consolidated loss $18,655,000

Interesting they spent $6.2million more than they made on things like events, sponsorships, merchandise etc.
The other $12.4 million loss was due to increased spending on touch footy, admin, game developments, NSWRL and QRL increased grants, consultancy re the new media deal, community and player welfare.

NRL clubs got $15.7million extra in grants.

Worryingly the deficit has been covered out of reserves suggesting the Dave Smith war chest is already being whittled away.
