The Official Save Todd & Kevin Thread

Fellow Eels supporters, I'm writing to you in light of the sad story to hit the papers today. You know what I'm talking about....Kevin Kingston. There is no way this guy should have to pay to play, especially a player of his quality.

It seems likely both he and Todd Lowrie wont be with us this year unless they play for almost nothing. Someone with more knowledge of the salary cap might be able to refute my testament here but I say:

LET'S DIG DEEP FOR TODD AND KEVIN!

They've shown us that they wanna put in for our club, so we should do the same...say for example 20,000 Parra fans put in $5 each...that's $100,000 for the two of them, so $50,000 each....or something similar to that effect.

I'd love to see these guys go around with us again....Todd in particular has proven me wrong and I'm glad he has, he is an asset to our team :D

I'm not sure if this would qualify against the salary cap, but it is the fans paying them, not the club....as I said earlier maybe someone can refute this idea....I just don't want to sit here and think that players who want to bleed for our club are going to miss out, and others who have shown (so far), that they're not going to go to the same efforts for our team earn more than they're worth. I'm not going to begrudge them because good on them for accepting what was presented to them, but I would like to see the much larger efforts of Todd and Kevin rewarded and I'm seeing if there is anything as fans that we can do? :)

We never said we don't have the cash. It's the room under the cap that we don't have. Donations by fans won't change the situation unfortunately.

Sorry Gronk, I should have been more clear, my bad mate.

I was suggesting they sign for nothing but our donations are the source of their income.

if that was possible (just thinking out loud) then some millionaire could come in and pay for a whole team and help the team. i would anything like that would have to count against the cap..

I suggested in another thread ....

We all take turns having their families over for dinner - a bit of variation, a BBQ here, a roast there, a curry, etc etc .... it'll save their families heaps of living expenses and he won't need that extra $50K :D :D

If it had absolutely nothing to do with the Club then...it would still count against the cap.

This is because it is conditional on them remaining at and playing for the Club. Incidents such as these immediately come under the cap.

Sorry folks, no dice.

Don;t get it. So Robson's landscaping job counts against the cap?

No, because he can still have that job no matter what Club he plays for.

If we're happy to pay Kinga $50k no matter what Club he plays for then we are welcome to do it. If we'd only pay it if he stays at the Eels then it is conditional on him remaining at the Club and so counts against the cap.
