The Origin vs Nation debate...

Let's apply some logic

To play for a club team, you don't have to come from that area. Right?

City v Country. Hardly strict rules applied to city v country representatives

NSW v QLD. An extension of a club game. Players aren't always born in the state they represent, let alone live there

International games. You have to be a citizen to represent that country

Now, the argument is that SBW is not allowed to play origin and Hunt is not allowed to play for NZ because he wants to play for QLD

This, simply because of international duties. Does anyone find this absolutely stupid? Origin should be the best reps from the two states, its not like SBW is a born and bred QLD'er and Hunt can't play for his nation because of the same rule

It's pathetic and will rob two players of playing for who they should

Cheers,
Moffo

For who they should?

Sonny Bill Williams is a product of Mount Albert, Auckland. He is therefore a Kiwi. He had a choice to make, he chose the right one. He is a New Zealander.

cutie, well he has little to no idea of loyalty and has been influenced by big ears. He'll cop some Wiki specials over the years, his problem. He's a little love-me-do merkin.

I thoroughly agree with what Ricky Stuart has said. If you're a f***ing Kiwi, you do not play State of Origin.

I think overseas players should be able to play Origin. Internationals are based on where you come from as a person, whereas Origin is based on which state basically turned you into a first grader. Origin is about NSW and QLD showing each other how good the players they developed are, whereas internationals is not like that. So I think Sonny Bill and others should certainly be allowed to play for NSW or QLD.

I totally agree.

It'll be an absolute farce is Kiwis and Poms are allowed to play Origin.

I've said this before and I'll say it again, state of Origin is NEW SOUTH WALES and QUEENSLAND, where those players played their junior football and grew up playing in those states. Why cant NZL and GB have their own Origin?

Sonny Bill has already played for New Zealand so that should rule him out of Origin. Where was his junior football? New Zealand, so that should rule him out anyway. This is the problem with the ARL, they always seem to allow anyone play for Australia and State of Origin.

Imagine a player, who's given his best for his club, played his junior footy in New South Wales, and then all the sudden some Kiwi takes his place. Thats not right, shouldnt happen they shouldnt allow any of this to happen. What does this prove, we dont have enough talent, or the ARL seem to take other talent and cant be bothered to look at their own grassroots.

This is all Phil Gould's fault, he brought up this stupid statement about allowing Kiwis for Origin since he saw exciting players like Marshall, Utai, Williams and Hunt. He wanted anyone playing for Origin cause he was the master coach.

Well Ive had enough, they should really be strict on these rules, not just State Of Origin but International football as well.

Dont be stupid.

State of Origin is for NSW and QLD alone.

Its just the fact that QLD have cheated for years and drafted in anyone they can that some people are even suggeting we should all be allowed to cheat.

State of Origin is not the All Star Game. It is a series of matches between representatives of two states.

Having international players in Origin, aside from all the very real problems with it like Geoff Carr has outlined, would just further devalue international football.

A better solution would be rather than relaxing eligibility rules for Origin, tighten them up. So Karmichael Hunt would not have any choice to make - he would be ineligible for Origin and have to play for NZ.

State of Origin players need to be the players that are available to play for Australia.

Karmichael Hunt has been representing QLD since he was 11.

Hunt can't have been here for 15 years uless he came over when he was 4 or something....
He's about as Aussie as Brent Webb is Kiwi. The rules should be tightened, not relaxed.

Let the Kiwis have their own "Origin" series. Hopefully it will be on within a few years.

I remember Hunt being interviewed and he was asked if he wanted the All Blacks or Wallabies to win. He said he has always supported the All Blacks. Therefore he is a Kiwi.

Simple solution, make the Origin rule based on where you played your first junior RL or RU. Hunt played for South Auckland. Therefore he is a Kiwi.

The confusion is when Kiwis go to school in Australia and therefore represent Australian schoolboys. But this is nothing to do with what nationality you are, it is just based on where you go to school. Soccer is the same, Ryan Giggs played for England schoolboys but represents Wales.

Sounds like you are basing it on which RU team you support!

I'm basing it on the fact he is obviously a proud New Zealander and wants to see his national team go well in their national sport.

In his heart therefore, he is obviously a New Zealander. He just wants to play Origin because Bennett has given him the idea that he needs to repay Qld for what they have done.

It's rubbish all NZ players should be playing for NZ and our game should be promoting Aus v NZ as a big game and an event exactly as the RU market the Bledisloe Cup. NZ have a great crop of youngsters at the moment and it would be a big shame for the league not to be using that to forge a stronger International game between our two nations. As for Origin QLD over the years have drafted in non QLDer's because of shortages in there squad. The league has to make Aus v NZ it's major product now or we run the risk of losing the next generation of young Kiwi kids to Union.

i dunno if anyone else saw it on the news last week but adrian morley is applying for australian citizenship and they say he could be eligable to play origin despite representing another country. but if he get citizenship, what could you do in that case?

in regards to kiwis playing origin, just look at the motto for origin over 25 years:

'state against state, mate against mate.' pure and simple.
