I now want to see what the 5 man board are made off as they face the biggest challenge in the clubs history and fill these massive holes

Head Coach

CEO Football club

CEO leagues club

Major sponsor

3 remaining holes on the board
Anyway back to the OP.

Coach - obviously long short list of candidates. Hopefully there'll be a bit more unity behind whoever is hired, unlike the past 3 coaches.

CEOs - I can't remember which is the minor one (FC I think) but just grab a doer not someone who's going to overthink or overplay their position. For the major one (LC?), Parr obviously sounded out, Hill, Mayer, Humphreys, among others. Maybe just do what they should have done with Hill and give Phelan the job full-time.

Sponsor - f**king seriously... might get some of those swipe cards from the Brewery with the way we're going ATM.

Boardmembers - again seriously f**ked up. The local club I'm a committee member of is better run

I don't see it so much as a problem of a 'divided boardroom'. This happens frequently in and outside sporting organisations. It is the 'turnstile' boardroom that is the problem, and this derives from the disconnect between the risks taken and who bears those risks and who votes the decision makers in. If you were starting from scratch you wouldn't do things anything like how we do it....but I accept that it is not easy to re-write history.
an undivided boardroom would take us back to the pre2009 days. I also agree that a divided boardroom is workable but it is not the turnstile effect that is the problem but the unprofessional nature of those we vote in. Either when they are on the board or after they have been removed by legitimate means.

I don't see how this gets better under the current governance structure. I have zero affiliation with the leagues/footy 'clubs', simply with the team, so I guess I'm in a different boat to most people here.....but I wish the NRL would take the franchise away from these generally well-meaning buffoons and put the NRL franchise out to tender on a 5-year license. Parra leagues/footy clubs to be given first option to meet or beat the best offer for renewal of license in 5 years time, by which time they'll have time to either fix the way they run things, or piss off. I'm sorry but this will get worse before it gets better (if it gets better).
anyone remember South Melbourne in the VFL?

Stability and a united board meant nothing when it was jobs for the yes men between 86 and 2009.

23 years of no premierships with unity and 4 years of no premierships (with 2 spoons) with division

Suggests something else is needed in the mix doesn't it?

What exactly is your point? I'm very familiar with what went on there.
If the franchise was given to the NRL to run, it would only be a matter of time before it received a tempting offer to relocate us.
The NRL would be happy to have a combined western sydney team to fill the void and move us elsewhere.

Anyone on here think that Matt Phelan will become CEO? or have any thoughts on the bloke?
From the interviews he has done I think he has handled everything he has been dealt with quite well.

the nrl also believe in saturation of the sydney market and combating afl in western sydney as a key strategy. the eels are critical to that. we will be going nowhere under nrl administration or not.

I didn't suggest that the NRL run the franchise. I suggested that a 5-year license for the franchise be sold to the highest bidder, subject to covenants requiring that 80% of home games be played at Parra/ANZ, that the team name remains the Parramatta Eels etc. At the end of the franchise agreement new tenders are called, with the PDRLFC given the right to match the highest offer. If the franchise changes hands, the old franchisee takes the goodwill, ensuring they have a strong incentive to maximise the value of the franchise. Any franchisee would, of course, have to come to some agreement with the existing club re junior development etc.

But it aint gonna happen in the short-medium term.

South Melbourne were a financial basket case, located in an inner city area that had too many teams. Parra doesn't need moving....it needs fixing.

fans are bandwagoners and a large proportion will only follow strong competitive teams (look at Wanderers), a combined western sydney team should be a strengthened team with a large junior base to draw on.

It would also make providing 1 main stadium easier to fund providing better facilities to the fans.

At the moment it does not look like AFL is the main enemy either.

you're buying media bs. the wanderers are listed at 15m and no-one wants a barr of it. they are in a honeymoon period ala the qld roar under farina, look where they are now. that's called your foundations.

we have a foundation the envy of most other clubs. our upside is 100x greater than anything the wanderers or the giants could achieve in 20 seasons. we are a must in western sydney

Wrong.

The Wanderers have a 2 million population supporter base.
That same supporter base is shared amongst 4 NRL teams.
The Wanderers won't necessarily need to be successful to maintain their supporter base.

you may well be right, which is why I also mentioned that I didn't think AFL was the main worry for western sydney.

The supporter base wont be maintained at the current level if they have an unsuccessful season but may still rival us in number.

It is my belief that a lot of football fans still feel that the A-league is an inferior product to what they would prefer to watch from overseas and will not maintain their commitment to the wanderers through hard times and will just follow their overseas team.

And you may well be right regarding that.
My gut feeling, and I've said it many times before, is that the game day experience alone at Wanderers games is more than enough to keep many fans coming back, whether they're winning or losing.
It is such a different experience to going to an Eels game.
Don't forget, a lot of their fans only know football, and have been crying out for a team to follow forever. They now have that team to support, and support it in the only way they know - the European/Sth American way.
That's also what makes the Wanderers different to ESFC. They are more British based in their type of support, which never sat well with western Sydney fans.
I don't think GWS are a threat to the NRL. Western Sydney hates the sport.
I also don't think the Wanderers are either. People can support both teams due to the differing seasons.

In the meantime, we all get a stadium upgrade. win/win.

Souths weren't kicked out because they were a mess.
Souths were kicked out because they were insolvent, and were the worst of the 15 applicants to take the 14 available NRL spots. (They weren't really kicked out, just weren't given a licence to get in).
Hahahahaha.

Hahahaha.

Lol.

This is a joke right?

Well with suburban Sydney clubs, not all the support has to be from that one suburb. That's one thing that all the 'dots on the map' idiots seem to forget.

I'm glad that Parra have decided to reach out to Darwin, doing the same to Launceston worked wonders for my AFL club.
