The Perspective Issue

This season has truly been one of pure shit. Even if we make the 8.

At the beginning of the season, how would you have answered the following questions:

(1) Did you think we had a top team this year, one to challenge for the title?

(2) Did you think that at least we could make the top four and really put the wind up the top teams?

(3) Did you think we had a terrific roster with x factor players?

(4) Did you think we had a team capable of defending our line for long periods and sending tremors of fear into opposition players?

(5) Did you think we have the coaching staff and support to make a great tilt at winning a large majority of our games?

(6) Would you have been disappointed or surprised if we missed out on the top 8 altogether despite our cruisy draw?

If you would have answered Yes to all these questions, you are either a Sharks fan with blinkers or someone so passionate that you just ignore all the facts and assume we will win all our games.

Truthfully, at the beginning of the year I think we all knew we didn’t have the roster to compete at a high level this year. We knew that the top teams would absolutely shit on us and it would only be the also rans we were capable of beating.

Losing Xerri did not help – that was one thing that Bomber would not have been ready for and losing Josh Morris was a crime and one that the media and the Roosters should hang their heads in shame for. And Moylan is just shit.

But even if we still had Xerri and Morris and a fit and healthy Moylan, we were still behind the 8 ball as far as a successful season goes. There was no way we were going to win the comp or finish in the top 4. As it stands there is still an outside chance we can miss the 8.

So lads, we need to look at the perspective of all this and conclude:

(1) Our team is shit

(2) Our coaching staff is shit

(3) Our front office is shit

(4) Our home ground is shit

(5) Our social media fans on Facebook are shit

So if we do make the 8 and play finals footy, it is one huge f**king miracle.

Let us remember this and thank the Lord we have got this far.

My perspective on the 8: I’m a good 7.5 (but I tell them I’m an 8).
The girth is tremendously understated though.
Am I on topic here? Got a sneaky feeling I may have digressed somewhat.

It'll be a drastically different team running out for the finals if we make it...some perspective in how much of an adjustment has taken place in that time...

2019 vs Manly

1. Dugan
2. Feki
3. Xerri
4. Morris
5. Gray
6. Johnson
7. Townsend
8. Fifita
9. J. Brailey
10. Prior
11. Nikora
12. Graham
13. Gallen

14. Woods
15. Capewell
16. Williams
17. Hamlin-Uele

Huge difference for what's likely gonna be the same or similar result. If we equal last year's efforts it's a success...missing the finals would be disappointing.

Coming 8 is a pass mark for mine.

We have adversity, no doubt, with Xerri. Morris, top tier player injuries, cap penalties etc etc.

We also have had the easiest draw I can recall.

It’s the absolute shit games we’ve dished up at times that annoys me the most. Can’t find an excuse for that.

You put too much thought into the above and none into the below.

Absolutely on topic. Unlike the young sharks players and some posters whose minds wander at times ,you have an amazing ability to ignore distractions and stay focused on the matter at hand .

Its been a good year giving experience to the young fellas - they've all stepped up.
Nikora will have played out his second year syndrome.
SJ has become one of us.

It's some of the other old fellas who are now the dilemma - chad moyza fifita being the main ones

At the start of the year I was just hopeful to make the 8 for the 6th year in a row. Was always going to be a bit of a rebuilding year. While we have been leaking a shitload of points at least our attack has exceeded our expectations. No real home ground also has been a disadvantage but I guess most sides have been in the same situation. Considering we’ve had a few games where the whole spine had less than 50 games experience I feel we’ve done ok. Geez if we’re shit there’s 8 sides that are worse than us.... and as someone else said....new comp once the semi’s kick off and there will be absolutely no expectation of our guys so who knows what might happen.
