The Queensland Backline Myth

throughout this entire origin series we have heard about how the QLD backline is the greatest of all time, and how their strike power is unmatched, and how the entire team is the best in history...

But for all the hype, this electric, unstoppable, australian backline, and the entire QLD team, could only lay on 3 tries through backline movement (inglis & Boyd game 1, Hodges game 3... sort of), and the rest were either from kicks, or directly off the back of a NSW error.

I don't know about you, but I would have thought the greatest attacking backline line of all time would have had a bit more strike power than that

Who would you drop from the QLD backline if picking an Aussie team tomorrow, only one of the wingers for Hayne and thats its. It's not a myth they've got better backs than us.

Lockyer as well, wouldnt be out of place on the lounge the next time a rep side, or even a first grade team was picked.

he's earnt the right to go out when he wants, plus he's still the best 5/8 in australia. i don't care what anyone says on these forums, most players still want locky as 5/8 and captain and his peers are the best judge.

Greg Inglis was the only bloke in the QLD backline that played like you would expect. That's not to say that the rest were terrible or anything. I just believe they are much better then we saw this series.

Jarryd Hayne is the only bloke in the NSW backline who would cause selection headaches for QLD.

Next year NSW possible backline could be Stewart, hayne, jennings, morris, morris , soward and A halfback , that three qaurter line has a great amount of potential. Jennings and Morris will benefit alot from this years experience

Hopefully Michael Jennings will be fully fit for next years series. If that backline is selected and all of those players are in form, we're actually a great chance at scoring some points. :D

I would have love too seen that Backline play together but unfortunately its still another 12 months away anything can happen , you also have players like Lawrence , Idris with another 12months of football under there belt so there is some great signs , just fingers crossed with the bloody selectors

jennings is a much better left centre and he was out on the right side in game 3..

qld backline aint a myth, its a gun backline which i think would be better if hunt was the fullback instead of slater..just adds that stability and he could chime in with the backs much better then slater can...hopefully theyll play to their potential next year

inglis is just a freak and hodges was awesome too

I'd much rather the Queensland backline than any other in the competition. The only other player who deserves a look in is Hayne.

Considering it was also missing two players I must say they did a mighty fine job.

I agree but i really do believe Lockyer is beginning to really struggle and looks as though he is playing on tired legs, although with Thurston as halfback all Lockyer has to do is give Hodges and Inglis early ball , where he use to Carry the team. I think its the right time for him to retire from rep football .

yeah im lockyers biggest fan but i think he's had it in origin..prince has gotta come in there next year..lockyer didnt do much all series..i guess he didnt have to with thurston dominating but he didnt create anything at all..hopefully retires from rep footy after the international series at years end..i was hoping he'd retire from the broncos too so we could keep hunt but theyre signing him for another 2 years apparently which i think is a bad decision

Its hard to say but the Broncos have basically got a whole new generation of players coming through and it may be beneficial to have him around to tutor any young up and coming halves you have in toyota cup.

Thats why i really liked the Dogs getting Kimmorley, i just thought he would be greqt for roberts and Barba showing them all the little nuinces of preparing and being proffessional, although he has been playing sensational footy aswell which is a bonus.

Maybe Daniel Wagon can make a comeback for Queensland. Alfie Langer style....

I dont think the Queensland back line is a myth at all. I think NSW defended against them pretty well.

Would Brent Tate walk back into the Qld side next year over Boyd?
