There is something about Smith and his disciples' coaching style that works in the short term but wears thin over the long term. Smith, Elliot and Anderson would probably still be good coaches for another club as long as they were replaced after 3-5 years.

So you are saying its not Smithy or Elliot then that has changed anything....its just that the players are wanting something more/different?

When under pressure I think sometimes the disciplinarian type coaches tighten the screws further instead of easing up.
I doubt Smith would have done the whiteboard thing if we had a winning record right now. He would give them more free reign on the field and probably won the match.

A struggling team playing without discipline can benefit greatly from a disciplined coach. The players buy into it because they can see the results but people can only be shackled for so long before wanting to break free a little.

I think in training this week Smith will probably tighten the screws some more where perhaps easing back might be the better alternative.

What the f**k is wrong with a whiteboard?.....my god, if he is to be sacked over using a whiteboard, then this is surely just a stupid witch hunt!

Plenty of coaches have players sitting down listening to what they say at half time....why can't Smithy do it too?....I saw the Bulldogs all sitting on chairs listening to Folkes before the Tigers game last night - so?

I assume Smith was giving it to them cos they don't do what they are told to do....would face slapping be a preferred method?

heard nathan brown's shower is pretty weak, hence his low-flow hair

 ...you crack me up halfy

i don't get the white board thing. I mean, I agree with it in order to show players a set move or a developed structure, but considering we had none of that on Friday, was he using it to play Hangman?

The whiteboard certainly had the same brilliant effect as the face slapping incident

well no - browny gets to keep his job for face slapping - smithy keeps his mits to himself and gets shafted

It seems as soon as any club starts a downward spiral that rumours start about players being unhappy and want out. Anderson and Elliot are two of Smith's former proteges, maybe they took too much from his methods.

Just weeks ago people were calling for Daniel Anderson to come back and coach Parra - now he's a 4 letter word like Smithy.......maybe they should swap jobs for a week - kinda like that Wife Swap show - everyone ends up appreciating what they had before...hahaha

Let's not forget what happened to Peter Sharp, another of the famed disciples. When BS was first signed, most people in the know agreed that 3-4 years would be sufficient for him to help get the club back on track and develop some tealent out of the vast nursery that we have. Unfortunately, Fitzy thinks breaking tenure records is more important than winning premierships.

To be fair, it's not limited to "Smith and his disciples".

Didn't current West Tigers "supercoach" fall out with a lot of the North Queensland players? I remember one of them coming out and objecting to his authoritarian methods and his insistance on being called "coach". I guess the number of ex-Bronco's around the place would indicate that Wayne Bennett isn't everyone's favourite coach either.

Remember my scoop on another thread about the Raiders out to sign Jason Ferris in the next few weeks. Woolford to half Ferris to hooker, Drew on the outer.
What is the go with blokes punching each other out. Is the game FERAL?
