Union Bledisloe cup ratings nationally 631,000
Parramatta v Bulldogs nationally 765,000

Even a club game can outrate the bledisloe cup, maybe some misinformed morons will see that all in union is not rosey, more a decay brown.

While not disagreeing with you entirely I will make two points.
The Bledisloe Cup was played on a Saturday afternoon but it still beat the League figures for Sunday afternoon (in a better timeslot).
The AFL is the big danger. The ratings for the Eels Dogs blockbuster were quite disappointing when compared to some of the figures the AFL gets in Melbourne. They usually get a bigger audience for their two main games each weekend with a smaller population (and much bigger crowds at the game).
I was interested that the Swnas game got about 60% of the audience of the main League match on Sunday. I don't think that is so good and shows that the AFL is eroding our base. If you put the Storm up against an AFL match in Melbourne they would not get 10% of the TV audience.
We should be rebuilding our game but it looks like we will have a few more court cases to sort out the Northern Eagles/Manly/Bears fiasco. What a waste of energy. Fair dinkum the AFL hierarchy and commentators just laugh at us.

Live TV would help. You can watch a live AFL match or a League match where you all ready know the score?

It's about changing culture. AFL isn't the big threat, they've got there market and we've got our.The Super 12's is Leagues main competitor but again, two different audiences are being targeted.

That's true bigbopper (youbig bad douggy) but you is did not mention is that the is union (pussys) is did go LIVE to the whole of this big bad land of ours. ON the other hand the league (only played by truly bad dougs) went live to is only NSW (baddest state in the country) and QLD (2nd baddest state int he country, doug. AS some other cat said, the union was live and league wasn't. So really, the league ratings were impressive. If they is had been LIVE (like a great big bad shining douggy) and had gone to the entire of this is big bad land they would is have had even better ratings.

I is bad and I is ghost. I will is be seeing you bad dougs later.

TheSaint,
I think you are wrong about League and Rules TV audiences. There is some crossover (i.e., some people watch both) and the evidence is that they are slowly improving in NSW and Qld while League is stagnating. When the best game for the season, featuring two Sydney clubs (with strong support bases), can only come 13th in Sydney TV ratings for the week, I think that is a shocker.
A couple of months ago the AFL got a bigger audience in Melbourne ( a smaller city) when St Kilda played Fremantle. The AFL has a stronger home base than us and is taking ground of League in NSW and Qld. They are a threat.
Union is nowhere near as big a problem. However to pick up Dog-T's point the Union had a TV audience of 278,386 in Sydney (on Satruday afternoon), while the Dragons-Broncos game on Sunday got 241,588. I am simply not encouraged by those figures either. League used to massacre union all the time.
Cheers
