Exactly. It shows the standards that have been set at the club over the last 12 or so years and under the Griffin regime. Even if finals were unrealistic during some of those years, it should be drummed into the players that it's seen as a complete disgrace to put on that jersey and not make the finals. It shouldn't have been made out to be all okay and that they had a good year that most years would've got them into finals. No. The style of play was dreadful, and did they or did they not make finals. No? Then it's a complete and utter failure
I get what you are trying to in-still but the words “disgrace” and “complete and utter failure” are too harsh and won’t get you anywhere in todays PC and mental health conscious world and youth of today
Especially when 9 out if 17 teams miss out each year. It is a tough company luck also has a fair bit to do with it.
That talk is for the BOD, GM and coach to keep throwing at each other hopefully in regular meetings

Blaming the fullback for the losses is rubbish. The fullback was probably at fault for say 10-20% of the missed tackles but probably 50% the reason Saints scored points. I still think his attack out weighed his defence. I don't know how you all saw it but when Sloan involved himself in attack they looked the most effective. He is the only one that showed any x factor about him and had the opposition on their toes a bit. Sloan also showed more effort to defend unlike Dufty. Dufty would fall for dummies or do anything else to not make a tackle. I see that in the ESL. He is running a muck in attack and scoring tries from anywhere in the ESL but his defence is still shocking. He can get away with it there but not in the NRL that is for sure.

Sloan needs to learn how to tackle low and around the bootlaces. When the opposition makes a break and they are far from the line, he just needs to go low. He tries to tackle up around the chest and gets bumped off easy. That is something Flanno will teach him surely.

Agree with most but first and foremost Sloan needs to put his slender shoulders into tackles especially from front and side on whether going low or upper area
For some reason tackling low has been taken away in 1st grade coaching tactics and replaced with wrestling and ju-jitsu coaching
I dunno anymore 😝
Hopefully Sloan improves next year

When I think about if this happened or if that happened and look at the actual outcomes, yes, this year we did lose a few from this and that and maybe if we had this and that happen, the ifs and buts mean absolute shite in the end. Other teams can say the bloody same and they didn't make it.

It's like so many other things in life when doors open and others close or opportunities go begging. You have to take the good with the bad and yes, we are having a lot of bad but in the circle of life, that will turn around one day.

I keep saying to myself over and over and over that if I didn't smoke I would be in a better place with my health and not have chronic obstructive pulmonary disease which I have reached a level of serious with now. Rehab is helping so that I don't reach the critical level too soon.
So, the what ifs and maybes we can think about, but I think that until the real issues are examined and the problems fixed, us turning things around will drag on.

We are getting closer, I am sure, to finding out who we will be getting to help us out of this dilemma and give us a realistic hope of actually making the top 8.

Hopefully both Flannigan and Young have ties with some players they have identified from their former clubs which is probably our strongest option for some decent signings atm. Seems like whenever there’s a decent player on the market the same old clubs snap them up before we’re even in the conversation. I hope Flanno’s meeting is to tell Hunt to put a muzzle on it!!

This year was terrible but it was the short term pain us Saints fans needed to happen. If Saints drifted around 12th to 9th they possible would have kept Hook. The lower they finished the more it showed how poor the management of the club was and change was needed. Hopefully we look back at 2023 as the year the Saints woke up and smelt the roses. I am just greatful St George Illawarra did not get there first wooden spoon.

Agree in regards to tackling. Tackling the upper body only works if you’re built like a gorilla and if not you need at least 2 in the tackle. Funny, I can still hear my junior coach saying ‘ they can’t run without legs’. Re Sloan, I think he knows this will be his make or break year so I hope so too.

Just going back to the possibility of the Suaalii signing.

IF we get close to the start of next season, and IF we have not been able to attract as much top quality as we would've liked (bearing in mind we know 2025 will have more capacity for roster change), and IF we have a shedload of salary cap left, why wouldn't you make a play for him for 12 months if available? In these circumstances I don't understand what the downside would be.

The alternative would be keeping the money in the bank or signing more journeymen?

Thanks Phantom V.

When you see the young guys running and jumping etc with lungs working so well all I can reflect on is the time I had that ability. Having my lungs at only about 50% capacity is a bummer and walking up hills is so hard.

Anyway, life goes on and the rehab is helping me a lot and so too the inhalers I take to clear the airways.

I only hope with all my heart that I can see us in the top 8/4 before you know ...

I do get your point BLM01, but I think Flanno will be using harsher words than disgrace and utter fail. Ask Gallen about the best spray he has ever received, he'll tell you it was off Flanno.

Everytime I see a player is leaving their club , I excitedly look to see where they are heading , or who is chasing them , then I get disappointed again as most times they are not even linked to us example Famworth from the Bronco's looks like going to the Dolphins ......
Too right mate, that deal was done a while ago, I think there is also a Bronc forward going to the Dolphins aswell.
