Don’t bite
That is the 2nd time in a couple of months this poster has told us someone is coming without naming names
Eventually it will come to fruition I suppose
‘Our Top 30 list for next year is taking shape but this will be a work in progress through to the start of next season. We currently have 27 players signed with some of these still to be announced. Our recruitment committee is continuing work on our list for 2023, and on identifying our needs for 2024 and beyond. These discussions happen privately and I look forward to providing more detail once finalised’

Many on here posting stuff about Hunt being selfish or everything just about him. I merely pointed out some quotes not mentioned which show he isn't making everything about him. The "me me me" bit is called sarcasm

Ok, that makes sense then.

I just got sick of reading all the verbal diarrhoea being directed at our captain and best player, that I stopped reading for a while and read your post in isolation.

For the record, I'm glad Hunt extended as I think we need his leadership now more than ever.

I also would, at some stage like to see him transition to dummy half and lead the team from there, much like Cam Smith did while Munster, Hughes and Papy were relatively inexperienced.

This would take some pressure off Bud, Jnr and Ramsey or Sloane.

Pick the best 17 available and find a spot for them...

Well, buckle up mate.....I can't see the verbal diarrhoea stopping over the next 3 seasons. Many have it in for him now, and the fact that he was extended for 2 more years. Going to be the new whipping boy for many in here.

And I agree with you, we needed him to extend.....and I am sure we will see him play 9 at some stage, when we have a halfback capable at NRL level.

Well, if we currently have 27 signed for next year then there's only one signing we're currently unaware of. Lui Toso is supposedly on a development deal so surely it's not him even though zero tackle has already got him as off-contract with us next year and therefore part of the top 30 (obviously they've got no idea). Other than that, we really haven't been linked with anyone off-contract to come next season and be part of the top 30 as I imagine the hooker from the qld cup will be development. So perhaps this is randoms prop that he says we have signed, though I'd find it odd to say we've got him signed from Webb considering technically this player shouldn't have signed anything yet. Maybe we've done something we aren't exactly supposed to be doing and so we can't announce number 27 until November.

Or, of course, number 27 is simply another nufty.

I think you'll find Lui Toso is part of the 27 contracted players for 23
In his comments he was offered a development deal by a few clubs but we offered a 1 year contract

Hasler reportedly been told he won't be coaching Manly in 2024 and next season is his last. So he will be available. Potential coaches would include: Jason Ryles, Des Hasler, Dean Young, Shane Flanagan and the likes of Michael Maguire that I don't think we'd really consider. Ryles has an ever-growing reputation for being a good future coach, so maybe go down that route if we believe he's ready of course. He's served a very good apprenticeship under the likes of Robinson and Bellamy as well. I'd probably rule out Shane Flanagan, don't like the idea of him coaching our club. He's proven time and time again he just brings trouble with him. So, realistically, I'd personally shortlist Ryles, Hasler and Young for the coaching gig.
Cant understand this Dean Young love yet. He wont be ready IMO. Forget him ATM, we need more.
He has just started his real apprenticeship under a rookie head coach and of course some time under our previous whiteboard operator learning how to talk your resume up.
He needs more time. Look how long these other new head coaches have spent as assistants under good coaches at successful clubs before they are ready.
Very few long term assistants who have been media touted as "ready " to step up have been successful.
Maybe Payten will Yes and Fitzy (see how he goes next year) will prove they were. Many have not.
Seibold and O'Brien are classic examples of not transitioning that well and plenty of other so called great assistants are now on the HC scrap heap like Brennan, Madge?, Price, McFadden, Kearney etc

Agree; often the roles are widely different and can be quite specialised in their own right. John Cartwright has reversed the usual direction with some success. Furthermore, the traditional thinking of the Assistant just serving as an apprentice to the Head Coach position, doesn't always apply and they could be most effective in carving out a career as an Assistant.
Some of these names put forward are way too ‘undercooked’ imo. Leave them alone and let them hone their craft and assess it later.

An unbelievable situation. I thought that ok if Sullivan and Sloan move on and play elsewhere then we SHOULD have a few other juniors that could eventually take their places should Hunt move to 9 or when he departs the club. I know that it is the Mole reporting but if true, then who will we have coming through for future depth? Isn't Flanagan supposed to be looking after areas of recruitment, retention, development of players for the club as the List Manager? as per https://www.foxsports.com.au/nrl/nr...n/news-story/fed4a1aabb803449bc830b5bc11afeb4.

How is it then we could be losing so many youngsters? Does he think they are not worthy of being kept at the club? Who else does the club have that are as good as or better than the guys "leaving"?

Every week the news coming out is a blow to the fans. The club is spiraling big time.

Flanno is list management consultant and is probably telling them to stick with Sloan and Sullivan hence the club refusing the request. Unfortunately the dope Griffin is making it worse by ignoring them and putting his buddies in. Can you blame the youngsters from seeking a release. You cannot blame Flanno if that is his job as the players are leaving due to the way they are being treated by the head coach not being retained. Retention and Pathways would be such a tough gig the past 10 years with Price, Mary and Griffin in charge of who plays. No matter who they bring in or develop, once they get to NRL they are road blocked as the coach picks mates or has-beens ahead of them.

Just like the news coming out of the tigers was chaos until the media were able to push the coach out.

I have no doubt they lurk in here to see what's being discussed. They want to stir this up to no end and they want to generate clicks on their articles. Unfortunately, it's Rugby League journalism 101. The hysteria in here makes us an easy target.

I'm astounded people take what is written as gospel. If you look closely, one reporter posts an article and every other one jumps on the bandwagon by copy and pasting. You even see the journalists themselves in their social media arguing with each other about who broke the story and where they got information from.

Surely you're not suggesting all is well? We struggle to attract good players, we fail to retain good players, and at least some of our juniors see a brighter future elsewhere.

No, but what I'm saying is that you can't trust everything that is written.

I mean, have you yourself seen these players playing? Their names haven't been mentioned anywhere except in that article. Suddenly they are guns and they are our future walking out the door? FMD. This stuff happens at every club but we react like it's the end of the world in here. Just the sort of response the Mole is looking for.

Don't be mistaken, there's no Dean Young "love" per say, I'm just being realistic that our board will consider it greatly.

This media sensationalism will be with us all off season for every little thing, the media sharks can smell blood in the water and will keep any story going just to keep sinking the boot into the Dragons. Of course updates from the club on a regular basis would silence things, but as we all know the Dragons work in mysterious ways !!! you could say its self inflicted.

Re The Mole's article

If we have Sullivan, Sloan, Amone, Feagai, Feagai, Ramsey, Suli, Lomax and several others that have been hyped up then the pathway at Canberra with their ageing roster and a couple of "depths" playing 1st grade looks a good option for them.

The shit only hits the fan if the above leave and even then the names in the article by The Mole aren't the one's that people have said are lining up behind our current crop.

Didn't we have a couple of "guns" from Thirroul leave and join the Panthers a year or 2 ago and everyone said we will regret losing them?

Last but no least if people think Flanno is the real deal and should be coaching 1st grade then nothing to see here.
