They won't be signing Cobbo. Word has it they offered him $600K for 18 months. Like WOW, what an offer. How can he possibly refuse?

This club is broken, and the way we handle recruitment proves it.

Ahh I give up

From what Chammas has said , our offer is the best on the table for him right now , Cowboys are only interested for the rest of the season and Broncos can only offer $300k

Club hasn’t tabled Cobbo a deal yet. Will only do so if Cobbo commits to leaving brisbane. Most people think Cobbo is just bluffing to get more money out of the broncos
OK, well, that's more like it. That is smart of them.

I hope this is not the only iron in the fire.

Our backline is probably the worst in the comp. Not a bad move in my opinion, has much more potential than anything else we have coming through any time soon. Plus doesn’t stop us going for middles or a half if they come on the market, as we should have buckets of cash for next year.

Correct BR.

I'm sort of in disbelief of the negative comments about signing Cobbo. An 18 month contract at the price you've mentioned is smart and economically beneficial for both parties.

Why would we sign Cobbo? Firstly, he can cover multiple backline positions, inc: wing, centre and fullback. The latter in particular is profound given the amount of playing time Gutho has left. I would think that after the 18 months (or sooner) we would be in a position to offer the type of contract he's after, but that's up to him to perform to get it.
Secondly, he's a marquee signing in best form. Yeah, he's not so much at the moment, but the opportunity to showcase would be there.

Agree with some that he's not a alpha prop or a high class 7, but who is available with less than a week before June 30? The only possible scenario here is the 3 way swap, to which the first leg has already happened, however, the other 2 have seemed to go cold, unless it's all background stuff.

Final point here regarding Sloan. He's been given opportunity and time to improve his all-round game, but it just seems a bridge to far. I don't think he will be shopped out, as he has an extended contract, but what was interesting is that Jesse Williams has just signed a T & T which puts him well and truly in the coach's eye.

I'll tell you what...if I have learnt a thing or two about signings at our club the last decade or so.

We all know deep down Cobbo is a huge risk, especially for the money he'd be commanding from our club.
Some of us will talk ourselves into it out of sheer desperation because our team continually plays poorly, so we hold onto hope. "He can't be any worse, right". We also know how hard it is to get anyone over who is a household name, so it's hard to just pass on the opportunity.

We've seen Paul Vaughan, a discard, become a premier prop in the competition while at the Dragons so there's proof a reject can work. Liddle, another who has went better with us than elsewhere in my opinion. Other than this, we are scraping the bottom of the barrel and it's not as if Flano and Cobbo have a history (although Flano & Cobbo makes for a good farming workwear label).

Fast forward ten weeks and, most likely, we will all be screaming at the tv "pull up your socks Selwyn".
Maybe it works out but I worry it is just another Suli, Sloan, Luc situation only on bigger coin and bigger embarrassment. Am not hugely against it for the reasons mentioned above...and then Roosters or Dogs probably jag him anywayand we are all left feeling the fool for even contemplating it.

That's just how I see it.

Cobbo wants a 5 year deal worth 700k plus. We currently see that as a risk. There is a high likelihood he becomes homesick during that time and asks for a release. Hence why the club is doing their due diligence and only offering an 18 month deal to begin with. Like it’s been said his manager has said he is willing to move away from Brisbane but no one has actually heard or believes that from selwyn yet. Once the club gets that impression from Selwyn they will present a short term deal with potential clauses in it that can activate a longer stay.

As hot and cold as Cobbo is he is still better than most our current backline players with potential to be a superstar. Currently none of wingers can catch a high ball so I would welcome the move. It’s just a bit of a risk knowing what Selwyn is like. Wollongong might be good for him though. Bit smaller and quieter than Brisbane or Sydney. But a lot of work would have to be done to make sure he is set up/ has friends/ probably regular visits home to begin with etc. we have so much free salary cap and with no gun props on the market improving other positions seems to be the go at the moment

Williams has shown speed in games and we have to give him a chance

Why the surprise at the negative comments? Cobbo adds nothing that we actually need. Maybe, maybe justified if we already had a great set of forwards and a great set of halves and we were looking for some icing on the cake in the outside backs. Maybe. Not to mention that he looks about as fit as Blake Lawrie at the moment - almost identical bulges in the front of the jersey. Plus the well known risk of his ability to stay focused on football. It’s cap money we can use elsewhere in positions that so obviously need improving.
I really hope it’s just media speculation because I’m SO over watching this club sign players that other clubs are happy to let go (not including Gutho in that list - he was an upgrade at fullback). I’m so over watching this club sign players that don’t actually improve the roster. I’m so over watching this club sign players that will ensure we stay stuck in the bottom 8 of the ladder.

My why is why isn't there more talk of props and better halves going on in the rumour mill? There should be more said by the club about what their aim is with regard to these positions. Flanno knows that these are the positions where we are not functioning properly in and what I want is for them to say that they are dead set actively looking at all possibilities here and abroad and no need to name anyone but actually say they are doing their utmost best to do something about this long drawn out problem. We know little as to what their aims are and this is what frustrates us - well me anyway.
