This years minor premiers have a far bigger issue than we do with commuting / getting people to move to the area.
Didn't seem to affect their results. They also recruited smart and with a very focussed strategy - something I hope our people in charge are taking note of.
We start winning and becoming an attractive club and the commuting / relocating dramas all go away for the most part.
Some people will be happy to commute, others won't. Happens in all walks of life.

However one thing is sure - players from other clubs had no problems uprooting their families and relocating when Bennett was here and knew we were in a premiership window.

Winning is the key….until
You have a winning side you’re battling uphill. We have done nothing this off season in terms of recruitment to suggest we will be a winning side…our development is a 3-5 year roadmap so do t expect any great improvement next season

I don't think we should label each season as 'rebuilding' or 'development' year after year

All clubs receive the same grant for the salary cap, and therefore, we should prioritize recruiting players to fill positions that are most in need. For example all effort needed to be placed in recriting a top-grade prop, followed by a short-term top-grade halfback:
Tino, Haas, KK
Cherry Evans

Horses for courses. Sure, some players might not mind relocating to Wollongong or commuting from Sydney, and some might... but that’s true for any club. Players from the Eastern Suburbs, Manly, or Cronulla aren’t likely to want to travel to Penrith or Parramatta either, and the reverse applies.

I don’t see location as a major reason why the Dragons have current recruitment issues.

For reference, I’ve lived in both the Shire (Menai) and St. George (Peakhurst) and regularly commuted to Wollongong University, about 35–45 minutes each way. Plenty of Dogs players and staff live in the Shire, which is at least a 30-minute commute to Belmore. So, in practical terms, the travel isn’t any worse; it’s just part of professional sport.
The question is why would you do it if there are equal if not better options and you don't have to?

I think the front office is being turned around. I like the location, I’m unsure of the Flanno attraction.

I think it is mostly because we have been a losing club for a long time.

But there is truth to “some people won’t want the commute”. But it doesn’t apply to all.
The turnaround to a professional functioning board won’t be complete for me whilst Haran is still employed.

Ok so just to add some common sense to this silly argument about whether we should train in Wollongong or Kogarah. The only way you compete as an elite football team in the future is with an elite level training facility. This is currently being built for us at Wollongong Uni’s innovation campus. The site requires 5,000 square metres for the building alone plus two full size NRL pitches.

My schoolboy maths makes that close to 20,000 square metres. Should we have a whip around to see if we can purchase a site that big in Kogarah and begin construction immediately? Should be easy enough.

This is a needless distraction and all it does is give the St George die hards who were lucky enough to witness the great winning run of the 50’s and 60’s an opportunity to tell everyone where it all went wrong.

We are where we are. We’re not going to train in Kogarah and no amount of whinging about it will change that fact so we might as well get on with whinging about other things.

There is wisdom in your words however it is obvious that Wollongong does present some issues whether it be as the St GI Dragons or Steelers.

So for all the old St G era people scratching their arses wondeing why instant success and immortality didn't come with the Wollongong input we find it hard to accept that there is a disconnect and that the Wollongong people say it's nothing to do with Wollongong it's anything but Wollongong.

Yeah that’s what i think also but must be a big one then. They are saying its a Major Partnership!
I was told by a very good mate of my neighbour whose cousin’s friend sweeps out the WIN stadium ( part-time ) that it will be the helicopter company that flew Keon down from the big smoke that will be sponsoring the Dragons for the next 5 years ! Odd that is the same duration that the big bloke is being offered a contract.30553C53-9079-46B5-864C-E515250A1B39.jpeg

This is an age old forum debate.. those from the gong believe it is an ideal lifestyle location for young families, those from big cities view it as a backwater small coastal town.
The reality is if all your friends and community are in Brissy or Sydney it’s a big commute or move to the gong, and not something everyone is keen to do.
I can appreciate that it may not be possible for some but I still find it hard to believe that most players would not view it as a temporary move, perhaps for only a few years for most, and look at it as an adventure or a great place for kids to experience living by the beach while young.

I for one don't won't a nother year of Cook if true .......
This is just so much who we are and how we continually paint ourselves into a corner or dig deeper holes we never climb out of..

We have yet another coach who thinks relics of a bygone era are somehow going to enhance our future.

If we miss KK or similar and extend Cook only a few will register their disdain and then will try and convince us we are heading onwards and upwards.

But what ever you do don't think it's anything to keep Kyle in the halves.

Again just me , by not signing Cook again would move Kyle to the bench to be able to cover for Liddle as our stating hooker , and then he can also cover in the halves ....... But what do I know ........ ?
