THE SAD TRUTH

Everyone knows that he will not stand dowm and that is the sad fact.

However I'll give you some FACTS.

1. We have been sliding since 2001.

2. PJ Marsh, Willie Tonga, Jason Cayless have played origin and International footbal since leaving Parra. What they had no talent with us?? The reason is Smith could not instill the confidence in them to attain that level.

3. His Big, ugly forward thing was a mistake. Don't blame injuries, other teams have them too. For once ADMIT that you were wrong!!!!!!!

4. He apparrently asked Denis if he wanted his resignation and Denis said no. Reason is money. Therefore Denis is the cancer, Brian is the tumour. So remove both.

5. I don't care if the players still like you. Even if it is Hindy. Results mean everything. You have had none in 2 years so its time to go. Are you man enough to just quit??? Are you Brian???

6. Sadly none of the above will happen and next year come this time it will be like Ground hog day.

I have always agreed with this, even before the season when everyone was wetting their pants at our so-called "beefed up" team.

The problem here, imo, is that Smith decided to play the game on someone else's terms, and that is not the way Brian Smith should be doing things. We kicked ass in 2000/01 because Smith found ways for the team he wanted to do well under the rules. He picked the team he wanted, then looked at how the rules could advantage them. This year it has been the reverse, with the rules dictating what sort of team was made. Bad move.

While I do believe that in previous seasons, other factors have played a major part in the way our team fared (ie, SOO mass selection, injuries, silly season turmoil etc) I do believe that this year the major problem has been that Smith rolled over and tried to play the game according to someone else's successful formula. Imitation will never better the original, and thus it was always doomed to failure. This has been my opinion since before the season even began.

I think for next year Smith went back to getting the type of team he wanted first and foremost, which is a good thing, but this year's "Size before mobility" (which, btw, was the exact opposite of what took us to a Grand Final 3 seasons ago) has been terrible.

1. Agreed.

2. Agreed.

3. How many big, ugly forwards have we used? Not many. Our biggest and ugliest forward is Cannings, who up until he got injured, was going great. I think a big metre-monster like him combined with an athletic and mobile fornt-rower such as Vella or Cayless is the ideal starting front row pairing.

Injuries not an excuse eh? In the past three seasons, we have had: Dykes, Morris, Hindmarsh, Cayless, Burt, Lyon, Vaealiki, Cannings, Grothe all injured for extended periods of time. Which of those players I just mentioned would not get a start in the 17 elsewhere? They are all quality players. So injuries are a valid reason.

4. Agreed. And if Dennis is removed, legends such as Sterling and Price may feel free to approach the club they adore and shed blood, sweat and tears for. I think it's disgraceful how our legends have been treated.

5. Exactly right. This is a business - in the real world, Brian would be fired. What is so different here?

6. My biggest concern for next year is that we have a young halfback in Witt who, with game time and behind a strong forward pack which we will have next year, will become a great player. But the likelihood of him playing is non-existant.

Injuries? Yet another excuse. We were full strength for round 1 v Canterbury in 2004. And got flogged. We were full strength for round 1 v Easts in 2003. And got flogged!

There are toip 8 aspirants who currently have similar injury lists.

HJ, Smith is sole selector. If he hasn't been getting the teams he wants, WHOSE FAULT IS THAT!!!!

Stop lifting your skirt for the failed coach, and admit that he is shit!

Agree fully with everyone here- any coach doing this for 3 years would have been shafted long ago and me yes, me always respected Smithy but he has shown a loser attitude and ego-outsmarts himself and his little pet projects amount to little results- i like his passion and determination but he has not got THE WISDOM needed to guide a team to a consistent premiership force because he makes too many changes from week to week as well as year to year and while doing all this cannot spot real talent to keep and play in firsts-A MAJOR FAULT WITH HIS OWN TALENT IDENTIFICATION.

Any side which loses 4 origin class players within 2 years is poor-J Cayless, PJ , Tonga, Ryan -you dont see other coaches let talent like this go in preference for poorer players- and when he does try and replace them we get MOI MOI, Muspratt, Kafusi,Langi , etc etc ---

Just think of the positives only 1 more year and then Smiths out on his ASS.
Maybe then we'll get a coach that can keep talented players instead of giving them away to other teams. :?

I thought Brian Smith had another 2 years to run on his contract. Unless Denis gives him the flick of course.

i think that us, as the coalition of the willing to kick brian smith out onto the streets must take action before next season becomes deja vu.

His last year on contract is next year. Surely if we dont get to the finals he wont be resigned.
