Lets see if we have a better year than last year.

Good start to the year, although it was only the CATS but a wins a win and were were not at full strength.

Beale had a reasonable debut from the bench, he certainly is a goer.

Waratahs beat Lions after flight plan pays off

New South Wales outmuscled the Lions 25-16 in their Super 14 opener at Ellis Park in Johannesburg this morning, after their gamble of arriving in South Africa only 53 hours before the match paid off.
Waratahs coach Ewen McKenzie chose to arrive late in Johannesburg rather than risk jet lag after an 11-hour flight from Sydney.
The new-look Waratahs team showed no ill-effects as they took a 15-6 lead into half-time with fly half Daniel Halangahu and flanker Rocky Elsom brushing off poor tackles to bustle in for tries from 15 metres out.
Winger Peter Hewat converted the second to add to his earlier penalty, which contrasted with two penalties from Lions fly half Louis Strydom, who was a late replacement for injured Springbok number 10 and team captain Andre Pretorius.
The Lions, formerly known as the Cats, struck back two minutes after the restart when wing Louis Ludik sped outside Lote Tuqiri to score in the right-hand corner. Strydom converted to reduce the Waratahs' lead to two points.
Hewat slotted a second penalty to restore some of the Waratahs advantage before McKenzie cleared his bench, introducing among others highly-rated fly half Kurtley Beale who turned 18 only a month ago.
Beale immediately looked at home and had a hand in the move that led to the decisive moment in the match when Lions centre Jaque Fourie was yellow-carded.
Beale moved the ball to Tuqiri who was spear-tackled by Fourie. From the resulting penalty, the Waratahs set up a line-out drive and replacement hooker Adam Freier scored the Waratahs third and conclusive try.
Hewat converted and the Waratahs had too much experience and enough energy to close out the game.

If you pay off the ref every week like this week you'll probably go well. Fair dinkum. What a disgrace.

Alright start but it was only the Cats. They won't be getting their locks back for this season.

Well we are the first to beat the LIONS at Jo-Berg, whom
as you would know my learned friend are a much improved
version of the Cats.

What the hell was Tuqiri on? I felt sure he was going to get sent off the way he was carrying on.

So picking up a guy and driving him into the ground off the ball is tough?

You you cared to watch a game once in a while Laurie, you would know that
phyical imtimidation and tough play are key factors in Lote's game.

He does it at every level of the game, I've seen him pick up and nearly kill
a young bloke that was about 30kgs lighter than him when he was playing for
West Harbour.

It shows them that he's not to be messed with defencively, just ask Tom Vandell.

Well done MacKensie..that was the single WORST game plan I have ever seen! Why are we taking so many damn penalty goal attempts. Een more so ..after Hewat had missed 3..give domeone else a go. Beale must start, I don't care if he is 18 but the NSW side looks better with him at 10!

I share your pain Tahs fans. But the Chiefs deserved the win more than your mob !

Whatever, the Cheifs blew a bonus points worth of tries in the frst half of that game, no way they deserved a win.

Sadly he was outdone by Fisher's "kick a drop goal from 70 metres rather than score a try" game plan on Saturday night.
