Yeah i hope they don't expand the WCS to be more than a single weekend.
Doesn't matter which teams play. Which ever comp wins the most games is declared the best comp in the world.

I'd prefer season March-Sep with int'ls in october. Nov, dec, jan, feb off. No "player burnout" and no SL matches whereby teams are willing to rest their best. 6 months of intense domestic RL and a month of intls.

we my have brain farted our way to a solution...

turn the WCS into a ryder cup of RL played over a single weekend.....

team NRL v team ESL

3v3....possible expansion to 5v5 ( so 1 game friday,2games on saturday & 2 on sunday)

last game always the WCC game..

overall winner is the league that wins the most games..

right,done,sorted......

For those who haven't been following the story, let me simplify it for you:

England: Long domestic season. Fulfill their international obligations.
Australia: Short season. Don't fulfill their international obligations (in 2015).

Richardson (an Aussie): Demands England shorten their domestic season in order to fulfill their international obligations.

WTF!!???????

Spud, we're getting much closer to a viable solution.

Langpark, Richardson isn't demanding anything. He's been employed to drive int'l growth. The NRL will shorten their season next TV deal (2017). Richardson is clearly thinking of the long term strategy he is employed to create. He wants such a strategy to boost relations with SL and France. Unfortunately he doesn't see this possible over the long term with the new SL structure. If SL players are overworked, they may never beat Aus, and thereby working against the int'l strategy he's been appointed to shape.

Fortunately, there is the option for the SL to go straight into knockout finals at the super 8s, rather than one more round robin.

If you tead his article knowing he is passionate about the int'l game, his quotes come across very different. He's not an Ivan Cleary saying there should be less rep footy.

when you add 9s & trials (charity shield etc) the aussies start at the same time ESL starts lol...

and DWI..i could get behind a ryder cup style WSC&WCC as long as it only lasts one weekend....and no way interupts or replaces international RL

VODAFONE Fiji is keen to develop rugby league in the country.

Yesterday the Fiji National Rugby League kicked off its season with the Vodafone 9s tournament at Prince Charles Park in Nadi and the secondary schools tournaments around the country.

Vodafone Fiji's chief marketing officer Sanjeewa Perera said the sponsorship of 9s tournament was part of their continued effort to raise the profile of the sport in the country.

Parera said such tournaments provided the opportunity to market and showcase Fijian talent for the selection in the national team and also to be scouted for international clubs.

"This has proven very successful with the number of players plying their trade abroad with most having donned the national jersey along the way," he said.

"Recently some of these talented players participated in the Auckland 9s in New Zealand."

Meanwhile, the matches were still underway when this edition went to press last night.

Add both leagues trials than ESL starts in December.

imo thought the ESL really dosen't have that much opportunity or need to shorten.
ESL don't have origin which contributes to every teams injury toll and is where a tonne of the fatigue comes from.
They have a match against France (i thought) but nothing like the NRL rep schedule.
The ESL structure isn't as demanding on the top talent, so the fatigue isn't as big (although it is a concern) a factor in scheduling.

Maybe having magic week as one of the 22 rounds rather than the unequal 23rd fixture?

I said a long time ago the challenge cup should involve the lot and make it a proper wcc.

That would be better than scrapping a proper and original tradition from the very start of Rugby League over 100 years ago and put some real meaning into Challenge.

Let Cities bid for the final or keep the final where it is.

On a side note, when Souths play in the wcc tomorrow, out of all the teams left in the NRL from the SL war bar the Gold Coast Titans who are relatively new will have played in a WCC final or series since the SL war Bar the Parramatta Eels :(

The cup means plenty and goves the minnows and amateurs a chance to play against elite teams in a prestigious competition. It keeps the grassroots involvee from top to bottom something auatralia lacks. The up should never involve NRL clubs, the world club challenge should be oir champions league and it seems thays the way the rfl/nrl are pushing it. Look at what crowe has said in the past 48 hours, the bunnies have had gained a tonne of exposure and good will out of this. both competitions clubs need to be building their brands far and wide and the wcc is one way of doing this

Why can't the first couple of rounds of the CC which usually see SL clubs play Championship ones be played midweek between SL rounds? That way you can already start the season two weeks later or finish two weeks earlier without.

The revert to weekend rounds from the quarter final stage.
