The Townsend issue

Chad Townsend has 1 try assist in the last 11 games he has played, 0 this year. SJ has 6 for the season for comparison. We are 0 - 4 when he has played this season and our best attack was with SJ and Moylan in the halves.

How does he escape criticism? Where did this narrative of "7.5/8 out of 10 every week" come from? When was his last 7.5 or 8 game? Pre origin last year? I get he is a "great leader at training" but we need more from our 7 especially when he is not on chump change.

Townsend has flown under the radar for a long time because previously he was always surrounded by creators and his job was to be a steady defender who would just distribute the ball to those players - Maloney, Barba, Holmes, Moylan, Ennis. Now they're all gone, he's he "senior" player but he doesn't have the ability to spark anything himself.

Just remember the Bulldogs game last year where we could have won on the bell but he kicks the ball dead in-goal instead of passing it! Terrible decision-making.

Said it in another thread, I simply don't bother watching if he is selected.

Makes my life much simpler and happier. Won every game I've watched this season, and they had some entertaining play.

All of K's points are valid, he may have had an effect in Flan Jnr leaving, and I think he will cost us Trindall as well. Could be wrong but I expect Trindall to become a good first grade half.

If the club insists on sticking with Chad, it should be as backup hooker.

He is capable of doing it though. first half of 2016 he was really creative. That form just went without a trace and never been seen since. I think he did that at the warriors too. Maybe its just a new club thing.

Which reminds me, he played with SJ over there. So many years together, you'd think they'd have developed into an elite combo.

I’ve said many times before, you won’t meet a better bloke than Chad. Great for the club off the field and has black, white and blue that run through his veins.

The problem is we are a first grade rugby league team(at times) and facts need to be addressed. Bomber tough decisions need to be made and that press conference I watched was pure dribble. Sponsors, members and fans want answers on how that performance can be fixed not a checklist of your resume and the players we have let go.

Who exactly is he going under the radar with? Not me

I'm assuming you must mean why does he get getting picked at 7.

After 2016 I guess the club thought all was well, and it was really. Then Maloney left and chad got shown up big time. His limited amounts of well played footy since then obviously was keeping someone happy at the club, even some people in here.

And then we had little flano coming through, he was to be the successor. I'm assuming the club was making do with chad until flano was ready. But then we re-signed chad and f**ked off the flano the successor.

And now we still have chad, and now tracey is the successor, except tracey was balls on the weekend so maybe trindall is the successor.

Either way we dug ourselves a hole with a below average nrl 7, and no real plan on who to replace him with with.

So, chad is safe every week.

He had a fullback, winger, centre , 5/8 , front rower , hooker and two back rowers that year that created more than him and let him hide his flaws.

With that much talent in the team you can be overlooked and score a few trys or support a few breaks and look good. that's exactly what he did, just looked the part but he isn't the part

Except he is the part because if everyone was the star your salary cap would need to be $100 million dollars.

Our "stars" now are dog shit.

His comment post that bulldogs fame was “whether that was the right or wrong decision, I’ll live by that.”
Ended up missing the top 4 due to that.
The only reason he remains is his clean skin attitude and he was a GF winner.
I’m tired of banging on complaining about him - it’s pointless. What is important is that my limp interest in the sharks has waned beyond any other period I’ve followed them. Could be the GF win or I’m just getting old, but if a diehard like me is just bored of it. The sharks have got troubles

I feel the same somewhat. The overwhelming feeling I get is that the people in charge do not have the ruthless desire to be the best. That includes signing Morris from within without looking outwards at the same time, sticking with Chad no matter what. The reports that the training isnt up to standard. All of it. Not professional enough, not pushing to be the best. Just content.

To think a week ago, the rumour of Eddie Jones might have seemed to be out of the blue or a long shot, now.... may not seem so unlikely. Smoke there’s fire

Back to the bad old days for the Sharkies, unfortunately.
Told yas years ago he is mud.
Club needs another broom through the joint. If they don't get the spoon this year they are specials for it next year. No ticker, no passion for the club

All we all wanted to win was one.

The stars aligned.
The RL gods smiled on us and sent Barba. Ennis. Maloney to team with Lewie Feefs Wade and Gal plus a bumper year from Prior.

We did it.
Theyre basically all gone including the coach and we are left with a bunch of bums who cant beat the worst teams in the comp.

Oh hang on - we are one of the worst teams in the comp.

His performance is underwhelming for a key position player and has been for some time. No running game, no ball playing, poor kicking game, solid defender, good club man and signed for life.

In 2016, his contribution is best summed up by pushed out of the way by Gal to pass to Barba. The club needed him to step up go to the next level once Maloney, Ennis and Lewis left. He isn't capable.

The Sharks play slow, overly structured and cant lift the tempo which is needed in the new rules.

He’s going down hill.

but you’re absolutely delusional if you think he didn’t contribute in 2016.

Anyway, haters will be haters and premiership winners have a ring.
